In recent weeks renewed activity in Ochre River country has seen 3200 acres leased in Dominion Lands Office records. Local residents hold most leases, with organization formed by a Winnipeg-based central interest that plans to commence boring soon. The land covers sections 19 20 29 20 33 32 two 22 in range 17 W 1.
La Verendrye Chapter LODE organized the first in a series of dances in the town hall on Friday evening. The venue looked festive with seasonal colors, and guests were welcomed by Mrs. J. Connor the regent. Music by the Dauphinalians pleased attendees and refreshments were provided by the committee. Convenors Mrs. WE Lee and Mrs Garry Peebles led a team including Mrs. A Gray Mrs. Saville Mrs. WJ McOonnell Mrs A McKee and Mrs A Goldthorpe. A substantial sum was raised for the new hospital building fund.
Oldfellows of Dauphin Lodge No 36 Victoria Encampment No 12 and Rebekahs of Alexandra Lodge No 13 gathered at the 1.0.C.F. hall to honor the 75th anniversary of the Rebekah degree. Robert Fagen chaired as Leonard Beer spoke on the contribution of the Rebekah degree and Odd Fellowship gains. An orchestra and several performers entertained before refreshments closed the evening.
Gordon Melnnis of Ashville had his left hand severed in a threshing machine accident. Glen Clarkson of Gilbert Plains arrived with a severe injury to a finger from a feed grinder. Colin Buchanan of McCreary underwent appendicitis surgery on Friday. Tilly Chopiak of Roblin district had an appendix removal last week. Mrs. Eagle and her infant left for home at Gilbert Plains on Tuesday. Bertha Rheaume of Ste. Rose is recovering well.
The Daughters and Maids of England plan a 500 party in Polson Hall on Monday September 27 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is 35 cents. Refreshments will be served.
A 203 car wheat train from Caritoz arrived at the Great Northern yards in Superior, length 4 080 feet and a mile and a half, valued at about 456 000 dollars. Each box car held 1 500 bushels, total load between 300 000 and 366 000 bushels.
Six games in the Hobbertin Cup handicap contest produced close matches as eight players advance. Reaches include L S Curtis J McDonald H Edgar C H Reeves C D Bates and C Murray with two matches to be played early in the week to finish by September 27. The Open Championship final sees McLachlin and North duel, North wins 2 up with 1 to play on the 17th green.
The Brotherhood and Sisterhood reorganization banquet will be held Friday at 6 30 in the church basement. Rev M Best of Minnedosa will speak. All persons invited. Supper price 35c. Watch for the Hallowe en dance.
The Dauphin Horticultural Society met Monday night with retiring President EF J Darroch presiding. Officers elected for the coming year include President R G Mackey and Vice President Bruce Goodhand, with Geo A Jackson re elected secretary treasurer. The annual show drew strong amateur exhibitor turnout and was the most successful in society history.
The Palmer Cup Bowling contest, starting September 15, continues to draw enthusiasm despite cold evenings and runs through October 9. Several rinks remain undefeated, with tight matches and strong performances from Steen, Johnston, Wick, Hobbs, Weir, Wilson, Connor, and the group dubbed "The four Georges." The article notes growing interest among Dauphin men and hints at a community sawin bee as harvests bring in wood work. Fire brigade rushed to three calls this week, saving lumber-filled warehouses and containing fires from a broken stovepipe and a heater.

Final election returns show Ward voters with a 2324 majority over Bowman by 596 to 1728 from 59 polls with three ties in Keld Gilbert Plains and Lonely Lake. A. C. Robson of Dauphin died September 13 in Portage la Prairie at age 81, survived by two nephews Childers Robson and John Robson. funeral at rell's parlors with Rev. A. E. Cousins officiating and burial at Riverside Cemetery.
The Dauphin Presbytery met in Gracera Church with about 31 charges and home mission stations in Northern Manitoba. Officers were elected for 1926 27 with Rev Robt Harry as Chairman, Rev John Jackson secretary, and Alex Oliphant treasurer. A death notice for Rev W C North was read and plans for home mission support and church construction discussed.
The annual convention of the Northern Teachers' Association will be held at Dauphin on October 14 and 15. Representatives from every part of the northern district are expected, with many teachers in attendance.
The school welcomes new and returning teachers including Miss Brown Miss Heyes Miss Crandall Mr Everall Mr Sanderson and Mr Churchill. Freshmen begin Collegiate life as grades X XI and XII nominate presidents for literary activities. Estelle Whaley and Bernice Gorby head Black and Orange parties respectively. Election results place Estelle Whaley as president and others in key roles. Field Day is set for October 1 at the fair grounds.
Gordon Mc Innis of Mineral Creek working for McDonald's threshing outfit on Calders farm at Ashville had his left hand severed while adjusting a belt driving the knives. He was brought to town and treated by Dr. Trimble, now hospitalized here.
La Verendrye Chapter 1.0.D.E. held an At Home gathering in Dauphin with Mrs. R Hawkins as convenor. Musical selections by Mrs. Winters Mrs. O E Heaslip and Mrs. G W Rogers complemented a talk on LODEs war memorial and aims to fund education for children of fallen or disabled servicemen. Fourteen women signed new membership forms as the group pursues the hospital building fund and general war memorial support. Tea concluded the event with praise for the committee and Regent Mrs. J Connor.
