Henry P Nicholson Dauphin Old-Timer Dies on Trip

Henry Pearse Nicholson a long time Dauphin figure and auctioneer dies of a heart attack in Virden Manitoba while traveling for United Grain Growers Ltd. He helped establish a store in Gartmore and Dauphin, later ran real estate, and served on the School Board and in Masonic circles. Survived by widow four sons and two daughters with a large regional funeral crowd.

Harvest Carnival Cash Awards At Dauphin Arena

Three nights of bingo dances and prize draws under BPO Elks 57 and Ukrainian People’s Home of Dauphin. Grand prize cash of 25 dollars went to Wm Beaven, with 15 dollars to J Farney and 16.06 to J Andreyko. A 1910 Ford novelty car, owned by James Waite, was won by Co D Banks of Winnipeg with many additional prizes listed for Dauphin area residents.

Cancer Relief Tag Day Brings In 106.10 Despite Rain

The Tag Day on September 6 to aid the Cancer Relief and Research Institute raised 106.10. Rain hindered collectors and reduced turnout though the organizing committee led by Mrs. Harrington delivered smooth effort with aid from Mesdames Hawkins McKee Kells Middleditch Brooks and young volunteers. The committee thanks all who helped support the institute's work.

Drought Area Vegetable Drive Planned by Dauphin Groups

In southwestern Manitoba the Dauphin Agricultural Society and the Rotary Club organize a multi day vegetable collection to aid drought stricken districts. Cars will be spotted at the mill spur near the Manitoba Co operative Creamery on October 12 13 and 14 freight free. Citizens are urged to donate surplus vegetables and deliver to the cars.

Dauphin Collegiate Institute principal Mr. G. M. Churchill spoke to the Dauphin Rotary Club on The Teaching Profession. He argued education shapes the state, noted public undervaluing of teachers, low pay, and stress. He urged teachers to engage in community life and politics to defend democracy.

Dauphin Trade Board eyeing air field expansion and highway support

Dauphin aims to mark and register an east side landing field for air traffic to serve as a regular northern stop, with a $1 landing fee and map publishing oversight by the Beaver Map Service. The board seeks provincial snow plows, snow fences, and oiling of highways, plus continued street lighting work and new association memberships.

Mrs Frances Steen son Dies Wife of Dauphin Minister

Funeral held at Pentecostal church for Frances Steen son wife of Rev Wm Steenson of Dauphin. Born 1872 in Monaghan Ireland she emigrated 1911 to Canada. Survived by husband two sons William Port Arthur Samuel Toronto and daughter Mrs T J Walker Dauphin with siblings in the United States. Interment Riverside Cemetery. pallbearers named.

Hawkins sinks ace on Dauphin Country Club hole

Ted Hawkins scored a 148 yard hole in one on the second hole at Dauphin Country Club Monday afternoon. He did it in a stiff wind and was joined by Johnnie Lawrence club pro Gerald Harrington Burns Heard and George Heard. The hole has yielded only five aces in club history.
