Crop testing by Searle Grain Co and the University of Manitoba shows seed quality slipping in the Dauphin district with 45 percent A, 40 percent B, and 15 percent C. Last year was 65 percent A, 35 percent B, and none C. Farmers advised to replace mixed seed with Registered or Certified stock and reseed on clean summer fallow.

Dust Control Works On No 10 Highway Near Dauphin
The Good Roads Department completed oiling of No 10 highway from three miles south of Dauphin to six miles west. Five tank cars of oil were used to reduce dust for heavy trucking from the gravel pit. Fourth avenue also was oiled by A N Duff while Second street segments were treated by Tomlinson Construction Co for the No 14 Service Flying Training School runway project.

Thousands flocked to the Dauphin Rotary Club Charity Fun Carnival for three nights of games and prizes. A Plymouth car was won by Mrs. A. E. Prentice as deputy municipal commissioner R. M. Fisher and MP J. A. Ross announced the winner. Net proceeds plus carnival revenue support the Dauphin Red Cross and local community service work.

The Dauphin General hospital celebrated its fortieth anniversary with a banquet. Sutherland Jones praised staff cooperation since 1900. Hon. Robt. Hawkins and the Manitoba Hospital Association sent greetings and invited attendance at the Portage la Prairie convention in October. Mrs. W. J. Harrington spoke for the Women's Hospital Aid. Vocal solos entertained, with Miss Hilda Smith accompanying. Board members, staff, former presidents and local officials attended.

A 145 PM alarm at McKenzie School drew Herald reporters and fire crews, but no fire was found. Rubbish burned in the furnace caused smoke, while dead air kept it from escaping. Within minutes, campus filled with students teachers press and fire brigade equipment. Principal A E Reid reported the smoke after Christine Bridgett saw it.

Bill King of Dauphin is hospitalized in Winnipeg General Hospital after a plane crash near Balmoral Manitoba. Aircraftman Gerald Murphy 24 of Winnipeg was killed when the Tiger Moth failed to recover from a spin at 2000 feet. King is reported to be making fair recovery with a broken right leg and head injuries.
