Town affairs discussed at ward meetings

Mayor Robson opened four ward meetings to discuss the town's situation after six councillors resigned. Bremer and Hoy defended actions amid criticism, noting savings and service, while others urged closer town school board cooperation and questioned over levies and investments.

Confirmation Service at Fork River Anglican Church

On Wednesday evening the 11th Bishop Thomas of Brandon and Canon Cousins of Dauphin conducted a confirmation at Fork River Anglican church. Five candidates prepared by missionary Mr. Riley received confirmation. Accompanying the Bishop were eighteen St Paul’s Anglican members from Dauphin including choirmaster Mr. G. H. Crimes and many choir members. A full local congregation and many Winnipegosis visitors attended, with warm thanks to the Dauphin people for assistance.

Mrs J Arthurs Celebrates 80th Birthday in Dauphin

Mrs Jos Arthurs of Abaca Quebec celebrated her 80th birthday at her son John Arthurs home in Dauphin. She came from Quebec a year ago and has stayed with her daughter Mrs John Seale visiting her sons Wyman and John. Relatives joined in the octogenarian celebration and health is excellent after a year in the Dauphin district.

Five Councillors Re-elect by Acclamation in Ward Elections

Following ward meetings last week six resigning councillors were replaced. In Ward 1 3 and 4 A A Brewer T J Clark A A Bennett W D Kine and F H Lepper were elected by acclamation. Ward 2 had no nomination leaving a vacancy. Regular meeting to be held tonight.

Ward 2 Ward Candidate Reverses, Nominations Closed

A. A. Hoy records regret and accepts blame for Ward 2 lacking any candidate after reversing a decision to stand for reelection. He notes ratepayers’ interest and says failure to sign nomination papers before the deadline caused the empty slate.

Mayor and Council to Inspect Water Supply

The mayor and council plan a Thursday trip to the mountain source of the water supply to inspect conditions there and report next week. Work has tapped lower levels of the lake with a full report promised in the Herald. The W H A concert and dance Friday night raised about $60 for the society, aided by Wilfred Robson’s music and expenses.

Demonstration Shows Geography by Pictures at Mackenzie

A port able moving picture machine demonstration in Mackenzie auditorium taught geography through reels. Citizens recognized themselves in scenes from the Board of Trade Good will Tour to Dauphin and Clear Lake with Mayor Robson and J N McFadden among those shown.

Returned Men Plan To Celebrate Armistice Day

A meeting of ex active service men is called for Monday at 8 p.m. at the G W V A building to plan a banquet and activities on Armistice Day which falls on Thanksgiving Day this year. All ex active service men are urged to attend.

Country Club Championship Won by J. L. Bowman

Jas. L. Bowman defeated Wilfred Robson five holes up with four to play to win the Dauphin Country Club championship on Thursday. Finalists and other fours included W. G. White and Dr WJ Harrington. The handicap title went to WH Arnett, former club president.

Dominion Lands Office Leases Big Mafeking District Tract

The Dominion Lands Office collected 3175 dollars for oil leases in Mafeking district this Monday. The large tract covers 6350 acres and marks a major allocation in the region.

City Urges Water Conservation For Winter Supply

To the citizens of Dauphin the mayor asks for cooperation conserving the town water supply. With no rain in sight there are no indications of rainfall and it would be wise to take precautions to ensure a sufficient winter supply. W. E. Robson, Mayor.
