Presbyterian and Methodist Joint District Meeting Recap

Corresponding members from Rev. Dr Atkins of Birch River and Rev Dr Riddell of Wesley College attended with Rev A Doyle. Messages from district ministers and lay leaders highlighted bright mission funds and plans for winter spiritual deepenings. A closing public meeting at the Methodist church featured Rev J A Devine and others outlining missionary programs and spiritual unity.

Opening of the Duck Season Brings Good Bags Across Lakes

The season opened Monday the 15th with plentiful ducks on Lake Dauphin and Winnipegosis. Hunters reported strong numbers and good shots as locals, including W. Cameron Bracken Morton Pat Mulligan Brent Douglas and doctors Trimble and Bell, visited Winnipegosis for a prime shoot and limited success. Local lodges Iredale Co Bowman Co and others also enjoyed solid bags.

Market Report Sees Record Crowd at Weekly Community Market

The Saturday market drew a record crowd as buyers rapidly snapped up stock. Butter 30c a lb, eggs 30c a dozen, beef pork lamb veal well priced, cooked meats preserves sold well. Vegetables and flowers sold strongly. chickens 26c lb, ducks and geese 20c. Stalls filled, signaling growing demand for farmers and townspeople. Livestock next.

First CGLT meeting at Union Church Friday

The first CGLT meeting was held at Union Church on Friday the 12th with many girls led by Mrs Rivers and Miss McVey split into two age groups. Officers were elected, songs and a prayer closed the session. another meeting is planned for Friday the 19th.

Town of Dauphin Tax Levy for School and Municipal

The Town of Dauphin announces the annual levy for the School and Municipal Commissioners for 3924. Taxes are due in two installments October 1 and December 15. A 10 percent penalty applies on October 2. A 5 percent discount may redeem the December installment if paid by October 1. Drafts and cheques must be payable at par at Dauphin and marked good. Laughland Speaks on Labour Party Progress in England

A small audience welcomed co speaker J V Laughland at the GW VA Hall Saturday night. Geo H Palmer, ex MP, chaired and recounted the Rev. Laughland’s distinguished career. Laughland charted Labour Party gains, called it true democracy, critiqued industrial conditions, noted aristocratic wealth and wartime taxation bankrupting estates, and urged production for use over profit before taking questions.

Dauphin Presbytery Meeting Highlighted by New Appointments

Dauphin Presbytery gathered Thursday with strong ministerial representation and few elders due to a busy season. Rev. H. C. Harris welcomed to Kenville, with Dr. Cormie and Rev. H. J. Keith from Winnipeg attending. Key reports praised Home Mission progress and slated ordinations at Maikin and Makaroff, plus staffing for Umatilla and Valley River. A joint supper by Ladies Aids followed by inspiring addresses at the Methodist church capped the gathering.

Mrs. Daly defeated Mrs. Trimble with a five hole lead with four to play in the 18 hole handicap event. The final match was played Saturday in good weather and the winner received a Fletcher Special driver as the prize.

Local Market Reports Threshing Underway With Cleaners Ready

Elevators are prepared to accept grain as threshing begins in the district. No substantial grain has been marketed yet though harvest progresses. By early next week widespread threshing is expected with three cleaners available to fortify grain and provide screenings for feed locally. No. 1 Northern wheat stood at 1.22 on Wednesday.

Wonderful Opata plum branch wins garden show prize

A four foot Opata plum branch from Mr. Bouchen's Valley River nursery held 239 plums on actual count. Shown at the garden show, it drew many guesses from 50 to 500. Mrs Hawkins and Mrs McLaughlin each guessed within two of the correct number and won prizes.
