Garry Peebles Wins THP Top Cup

Garry Peebles defeated Roger Watson in a playoff to win the Tip Top Cup for handicap golf at the Dauphin Country Club. The two tied for first at 76 before Peebles triumphed in the replay, Watson scoring 71. The Tip Top Competition totals list several players with scores, led by Peebles and Watson, and the trophy carries an individual cup presented by TipTop Tailoring Co through S Solomon.

Palmer Cup Won by Mrs Terry's Rink

Mrs John Gorby’s rink defeated Mrs M Wicks’ rink 11 to 9 to win the Palmer trophy for ladies bowling at the Dauphin Lawn Bowling Club in August. Five rinks competed. Gorby’s team included Mrs Walter Terry as skip in place of Gorby, with Mrs Bill Heard, Mrs Hazelton, and Mrs J W Johnston.

Public Meeting on Riverside Cemetery Vault and Chapel

A public meeting will be held at the Town hall on Monday September 19 at pm regarding the proposed vault and chapel at Riverside cemetery. Representatives from local fraternal, religious and social organizations are urged to attend.

Quiet August Ith wedding unites Sarah Esplen and Elroy Benson

In Glendale California on August Ith at 6 pm a quiet wedding was held at the Wee Kirk o the Heather between Sarah Mae Esplen eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Esplen of Dauphin and Elroy Benson eldest son of Mr and Mrs W E Benson of Hemet California. Rev Eldred Charles officiated with Best Man Warren Benson. Offertory by Prof Ridderhof, gown white satin Princess style with pink rose bouquet. A reception followed and a brief southern California tour planned with later Canada and U S travels. Notable out of town guests included Henry Esplen Beulah Esplen Nellie Smith and multiple Benson and Calderwood family members.

Campaign ends Saturday September 24 with sealed ballot box counting final subscriptions. Credits drop massively next week and double credits end, as local bank managers tally results for prizes including a car worth over nine hundred dollars.

Passing of Adam Stark one of Dauphin's first residents

Adam Stark died September 12 in Dauphin after a long railroad career begun in 1896. Born June 18 1862 in Limerick Ireland he came to Canada 1881 and to Dauphin with the Lake Manitoba and Canal Railway. Survived by four sons and four daughters, funeral held September 14 at Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Douglas Telfer officiating.

Death of W. J. Bodnar 23 in Hthelbert Hospital

W J Bodnar son of Theo Bodnar Dominion Live Stock promoter died Saturday morning at Hthelbert Hospital at age 23 after weeks of illness. He finished grade 11 at 16 and earned a B Sc from Manitoba Agricultural College in 1925. He served three years in the plant inspection office of Dominion Dept of Agriculture. Funeral was held at Ethelbert with Father Kaminiski officiating. He is survived by his parents and two sisters Elizabeth 18 and Melaine 6.

Grain movement in Dauphin district slows

Slower grain movement to Dauphin district elevators is blamed on low wheat prices. Farmers deliver much wheat but store in granaries hoping for higher returns as grade remains high with many No 1 lots and weights above 69 pounds per bushel. Street prices for the week show a broad decline.

Little Theatre Group to Hold Annual Meeting

The Little Theatre Group will meet in Mackenzie Auditorium on Wednesday September 21 at 8.15 p.m. The agenda includes adopting a constitution and electing officers. A forthcoming Big Community Wide Sale in Dauphin is announced.
