Meat rationing in Canada resumes Monday with quotas lifted on cattle slaughter and canned meat. The plan introduces eight tokens per coupon allowing split purchases and includes fancy and canned meats. Coupons widely valid weekly with new M coupons from Sept 13 and broader item coverage.
Thos Walker concludes four decades of service after joining Canadian Northern in Winnipeg in 1905. Married Agnes McKenzie in 1916 the couple have four children including Alex in Dauphin and three daughters in Toronto Devonshire and Dauphin. They plan to live in Dauphin with hobbies of politics swimming and boating.
The Dauphin Youth Services council band committee attended the regular band concert Tuesday night to hear the results of the groups efforts led by Jack McMurray. The proteges performed marches and waltzes with familiar airs to the audience's surprise and delight.
Walter Wolfe of Ashville received the Roger Goulet scholarship worth 75. He attended Minitonas High School last term and is now pursuing Grade XII studies at Dauphin Collegiate.

Four Dauphin boys held since Hong Kong fell on Christmas Day 1941 have been freed. Mr and Mrs N A Birss received a Tuesday cable from their son Pte Sheldon Birss. The message from Guam said he was safe and free.
Alex Bilahitka was badly injured last Wednesday at a farm 11 miles north of Dauphin. He crushed his left foot while hooking a tractor to a plow and had it amputated. He was alone in the yard when his foot was jammed between the gear and the plow as the tractor moved in reverse. He freed his foot before help arrived.
Heavy rain on Sunday interrupted a three week spell of fine harvesting weather in the district and more rain Tuesday night delayed resumptions, keeping farmers off the land for the week.
William Edward Robson aged 73 dies in Dauphin hospital after a life in Haliburton County Ontario and Dauphin Manitoba regions. He served as Town councillor and mayor and was a member of the United church and BPO Elks lodge. He leaves a wife three sons and three daughters with several brothers and a sister. Funeral at Dauphin United church conducted by Rev L A Mattitt with interment in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers listed.
Local service clubs begin a town wide drive for the Salvation Army Home Front appeal set at 1.5 million dollars nationwide with Dauphin area goals raised to 2 400. Elks Rebekah Lions and Rotary clubs join the effort with H V Smith as chair and S S Hunt as vice chair, while Capt G Oystryk notes broad social welfare aims including clothing for the needy reading material for hospital patients and prisoner relief.
Rotary club members invite all to a larger carnival at the skating arena next Thursday Friday and Saturday September 21 22 with games bingo ball racing big wheels electric flasher wheels air guns kid friendly events and a fish pond. Kiddies day Saturday runs 2 to 4 pm with child oriented games. Refreshment booth operated on site. Admission is free with attendance prizes. Rotarians Lions Elks and local volunteers staff the event to support community projects through carnival proceeds.
Dauphin General Hospital admitted 351 patients in August up 49 from July. Discharges reached 379 with 80 of 100 beds occupied. Total operations rose to 232, 56 major, up 49 from July. Thirty births and nine deaths recorded.
The police court reports fines issued the past week. On Sept. 6 Daniel, Robert and Peter were fined $20 with $4.75 costs each under the G.L.C. act. On Sept. 7 Matt was fined $20 with $5.75 costs under the G.L.C. act. On Sept. 11 Rudolph and Fred were fined $26 with $5.75 costs each under the Indian act and G.L.C. act.
Edward Osborne retires from the Canadian National Railways after a 35 year career. A Dauphin resident for 28 years he was born in Consecon Ontario and moved west at age 20 to work with McKenzie and Mann in Northern Manitoba. He married Rowena Jones in Winnipeg in 1906 and plans to stay in Dauphin with his wife. His middle initial is O Flynn and his passion is gardening with a noted gladioli display.
Donny Porter two year old son of Mr and Mrs Gerald Porter suffered a spiral fracture above the knee after a spill from his kiddy car last Thursday afternoon. He will be confined to hospital for several weeks while his older brother Kenny watched. The leg broke on impact when the child braced against the floor and struck a hammer.
A national clothing drive runs from Oct 1 to Oct 20 with local Elks Lions Rotary Travellers and BESIL members collecting clean usable winter and summer clothing footwear and blankets. Donations aid war sufferers in Europe and Asia via UNRRA pooling and distribution.
