The duck season starts Monday with good numbers of birds noted this fall. Hunters flock to Lake Dauphin area and nearby stubble fields while game guardians are warned to enforce season rules.
G W V A notes a general meeting on September 1 at 8 pm to discuss business. A concert series organized with Wallace Graham features acts such as Castle Square Entertainers and Canadian Juveniles from September to January to raise funds for association quarters.
A citizens committee secured Dauphin on the Lyceum Circuit for a winter series. The lineup includes The Metropolitan Concert Singers Tom Skeyhill Apollo Concert Co Bertha Farmer and Ralph Pantelle with a season ticket option at $3 for all six shows. Individual tickets range 75 cents to $2. Tickets available at the town clerk and Malcolm drug store. First advertisement to run next week in Herald. Event set for the town hall on Thursday September 25.
The Ladies Auxiliary reports the town hall dance as very successful and thanks donors including $4.5 of next of kin money in care of Mrs. Munson, the Women's Institute of Melton district for a quilt, and Mr. Wm. Mc Murray. The regular meeting is next Tuesday Sept 16 at 8 pm in the club rooms.
Announcement notes the approaching marriage of Miss Lena Rand to Mr. J G McKay manager of Consumers Lumber Co Dauphin. The ceremony will occur in Dauphin the week after next.
Mr and Mrs David Sutherland announce the engagement of their daughter Elizabeth Ixchella Wilson to Mr Wilhiam FPdward MccTaggart. The marriage is set forWednesday September 71th at 9:30 PM.
Rose Waters, a returned man, drowned when his canoe overturned on Sarah Lake ten miles south of Durban. He had left home Friday morning August 28 and was not seen until his body was recovered by his brother and Constable Tacuik of Dauphin last Saturday. He wore heavy clothing, hampering escape, and the discharge of his gun appears linked to the mishap. Deceased was well known in Swan River Valley and mourned by friends in Dauphin and Ste. Rose districts.
John McKinnon, early Dauphin pioneer who moved to the old town in 1805 and crossed the river with the railway, died in Vancouver on the 28th alt. He worked in the implement business for years and served as bailiff. He leaves a wife and grown-up family.
At the town council's request the Railway Commission stayed the order granting Imperial Oil Co. permission to construct a spur across Ist Avenue northeast delaying the project.
All women in town and country are invited to a Women’s Institute meeting in the Rest Room Tuesday evening September 16 at 8 o’clock. Miss Kellate will lecture on Tuberculosis with talks on bulb plant care and storing winter vegetables. A large audience is hoped for due to the national importance of the topic. Bring friends.
The Dauphin Ministerial Association held its first meeting at St Pauls rectory on Monday. Rev J A Haw was elected president and Rev Harry P Barrett secretary. The group aims to promote inter church life and the Inter Church Forward Movement, plans a town wide church census, and discusses Rev W Carey s book The Kingdom That Must be Built. The next meeting is set for Monday Sept 15 at Rev D Ritchie s home.
The postage and express paid at Dauphin this fall totaled between 500 and 600 dollars. Catalogues were shipped here by express and distributed across the district through the post office.
Capt. Kitson long serving at Dauphin will soon move to Yorkton. His departure with his wife is a matter of regret. New officer is Capt. Roy McCanaghey taking over duties.
The governor-general travels north today by special train with a stop at Swan River then on to Pas and later Prince Albert Saskatoon and Edmonton. A Winnipegosis visit was moved at the last minute causing regret in Sage Town residents.
Geo Smith disposed of his residence in Lovering Park to Jas Watson of McCreary who is moving to Dauphin. Chas Caldwell to head Bowman McFadden Caldwell law branch at Gilbert Plains. Delia and Claire O Connor join Gimli public school staff. Allan Clark Guilford Dunstan and Geo F King visit Winnipeg. King was invested with a war medal by the Prince of Wales. Inspector Marlatt noted Manitoba Temperance Act observance in Portage la Prairie.
The Carnival of the Seasons hosted by the Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society will be held in the town hall on Thursday September 18. Fancy work plain sewing and home cooking with produce on sale from 3 3. Good supper served from 3 40 to 7 o clock at a penny per plate. Music will be provided and all are welcome.
