Driving and Putting Contest at Dauphin CC Friday

The Lazy Golfers of the Dauphin Country Club will host a Friday afternoon event on September 1st. The Driving Competition starts at 2:30 PM on No. 1 tee, followed by an approach and putting contest. Prizes include longest drive, best three drive average, and best approach and putting. No contestant may win more than one prize.

Malcolm Wins Ward 4 by Twenty in Dauphin By-Election

Thomas T Malcolm won the Ward 4 by election in Dauphin by a 127 to 107 vote over Joseph Marker Barker following the death of councillor W. D. King. Malcolm, a long-time resident and current chair of the school board where he has served twelve years, secured a majority of twenty.

Five Injured As Car Rolls on No 5 Highway Near Ashville

Five people were brought to Dauphin General Hospital after a Chrysler overturned following a crash on No 5 highway near Ashville. Mr Sutherland and Mrs Sutherland of Winnipeg with Hilton Mowat and son Alex of Winnipeg sustained injuries. Sutherland suffered broken ribs and Mowat back injuries. others were less hurt. Passersby aided before ambulance transport.

Dauphin Country Club to Hold Weekend Meeting Dark Scheme Planned

Members will meet the weekend after next for a contest between the vice president and secretary. A. T. Warnock and M. Zworon can provide details of a planned supper or dinner and other aspects of the scheme. The day time place and weapons will be decided in a few days and shared with contestants before engagement.

Bowman Wins Tip Top Championship Cup at Dauphin Club

J L Bowman captured the 36 hole Championship cup with a 172 gross and 148 net. Dr Harrington finished runner up at 178 gross and 150 net, with a half dozen golf balls donated for winner and next best score. Other scores included Robson 182 and 154, Warnock 183 and 155.

Funeral of Mrs Chas Denby of Winnipegosis

The funeral for Mrs Charles Denby longtime Winnipegosis resident was held at the United Church with Rev. J F Palmer officiating. Born Sarah Scarff in Owen Sound Ontario she died Tuesday night and leaves a husband three daughters six children sisters and brothers. The community mourns a “good neighbor” whose death came as a sudden shock after a period of illness.

Neil Merrell 14 son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Merrell shot a hole in his foot with a .22 rifle while out in the country target shooting on Labour Day. He was with others when the accident occurred.

Three Years for Stealing Mail in Pine River

Stephen Weselowski of Pine River pleaded guilty to stealing three parcels of mail on September 7. Magistrate Hawkins heard the case after R.C.M.P. arrest. Weselowski was sentenced to three years in Stoney Mountain Penitentiary.

Town Council Plans Sept 15 Meeting on Community Relief Effort

On Sept 2 the Town Council and Local Council of Women plus men’s groups met to boost relief work. They aim to extend the Citizens’ Welfare Committee with a storage and distribution depot at Town Hall and ask all organizations to cooperate. A second meeting is set for Sept 15 at 5 o’clock in the Council Chamber to finalize plans.
