Town Council Weighs Oil Engine Light and Power Plan

Dauphin Manitoba aims to curb rising fuel costs by replacing wood with oil burning engines. North wins amateur final at Country Club with 36 41 cards

H A N North defeated Roger Watson to win the championship final at the Local Sporting Arena. North posted scores of 36 and 41 in a stellar, dominant game. The Country Club course amateur record is noted. The handicap final pits John Gardner against North next weekend. In the semi final White and Merth had a tie on the 18th hole, and White was eliminated on Monday morning after the deciding 18.

Delmage Dominates Northern Manitoba Tennis Finals at Dauphin

Postponed championship matches at the Dauphin Tennis Club completed under fine weather. Mrs. J. E. Delmage took the Ladies singles 6-2 6-1, and joined Miss Tritschler to win the Ladies doubles 6-2 6-2. Mr. C. D. Lear defeated Mr. G. McLean 6-2 6-3 in singles. Eastman and Stewart won the men's doubles 3-6 7-5 6-4, while Tritschler and McLean beat Jackson and McArthur 7-5 6-4 in mixed doubles. Prizes awarded by Judge Bonnycastle and Rev. H. M. Lyon.

Mrs Mary Herman Found Dead in Bed at Home

Mrs Mary Herman wife of Geo Herman was found dead in her bed Saturday morning by Rev Father Holloway after entering the locked residence with a skeleton key. Coroner said inquest unnecessary due to heart condition. funeral held Monday at St Via Church with Rev Holloway officiating and pallbearers named.

Auto collisions injure Wick car and Scott vehicle

On Sunday near 7 p m a Nash owned by M Wick and driven by Miss Irene Wick was damaged when Gordon L Brooks of Makinak collided at Third and Main North. Defective brakes were found on the Brooks car and repairs will cost about 75 dollars. A second collision occurred when Harry L Stein of Sifton backed from the curb in front of the Hamilton hotel and fouled H F Scott of Ashville driving south. Fenders and running board on the Scott car were damaged and Stein will settle.

Fire Douses Blazes At Two Residences

A Saturday call at 6 p.m. summoned the brigade to P. J. Mc Neelys house where a small roof fire was quickly controlled. A second fire occurred Sunday at 4 a.m. in an unoccupied 3rd Avenue S.E. residence with uncertain origin and limited damage.

Runaway Rig on Main Street Ended with Rescue

A noon Saturday runaway of the Wm. Cruise daily rig down Main Street saw driver L. W. Larson dragged between the tongue and a horse. Sam Townson and G. Harper grabbed the heads of the horses, stopping the team. Larson was freed and taken to a doctor, now using a crutch.

Presentation for Jim Ball Honor Slated in Dauphin

A special council met on Wednesday to recognize Jim Ball the champion quarter mile runner of Canada for his performance in Toronto. A public meeting is set for Thursday Sept 15 at the town hall to present him with a formal address and gift. Further programme details will be announced later.

Accident injures man while servicing mowing gear

On Tuesday morning at about ten o clock William Howell of Elkdale was injured while adjusting a mower. A horse started and the knives cut his legs, lacerating them. He rode to his home, Foster summoned help, an eight mile trip to Dauphin followed, and at Dauphin General Hospital Dr. Rogers found tendons and muscle severed with one bone injured. He rests comfortably.

Dooley Couple in Melville After Mother's Death Visit

Mr and Mrs P J Dooley of Melville Saskatchewan were in town for several days following the death of Mrs Dooley's mother Mrs Geo Harman. Blake Dunlop of the Neepawa Press spent two days in town visiting the Herald and played a round or two at the Country Club course.

Kildonan Wins Manitoba Junior Football Final in Dauphin

Kildonan defeated Dauphin 3 to 2 at Durston Park to claim the Manitoba Junior Football Championship Cup after a hard fought five o’clock kickoff. Ramsbottom opened for Kildonan with a close range goal, Hamilton equalized, McBain scored the winner as the visitors outplayed the home side in a clean, well officiated match. Postgame festivities included a banquet at the Hamilton Hotel with speeches and the cup presentation.
