Water Issues Prompt Expert Review At Town Council
At a special meeting on Tuesday September 5 the town council decided to ask W P Brereton formerly Winnipeg waterworks engineer to inspect the water supply. He will advise on cleaning silt from the reservoir and consider other sources including Lake Dauphin and wells west of town. They also studied sewer and water extension on First Street S W from Main Street with division of costs disputed among fronting parties. The mayor and all councillors attended.

Dig Ditch Digger Reaches Second Street In Dauphin

Prisoner of War Status For Wing Cram
Mrs W H Cram was advised by the International Red Cross that FO William Hugh Cram is a prisoner of war. He was reported missing after air operations on August 13 and has served overseas as a bombardier for nearly a year. Enrollment Figures Describe Dauphin School Openings
Classes started Tuesday in Dauphin's three public schools and a college with full staff and a total enrollment of 1 009. Principal A E Reid reported college enrollment at 220 down from 211 last term end and Grade XII 19, Grade XI 56, Grade X 53, Grade IX 92. Dauphin public schools totaled 789, down from 823 at June end, with expected September increases. Smith Jackson opened with 215 pupils, McKenzie 260, Whitmore 314, beginners 60 in two south schools and 50 at McKenzie.

Dr Walker Dies After Short Illness at 71
The Dauphin dentist Dr GC Jr Walker died at Dauphin General hospital on Sunday September 3 after a brief illness. He practiced in Dauphin since 1901, served as a WWI recruiting officer, and was active in St Pauls Church and local clubs. He leaves his wife Dorothy and children Gordon, Mrs Rogers of London, Mrs Scrase of Sherridon, and Sally Lou. Funeral services were held September 6 at St Pauls Anglican with River-side Cemetery interment.
