Durston Handy Thimblers 4H club won top marks in the boys and girls judging at the annual garden show on August 25. About 250 men plus trucks and tractors fight fires amid lingering smoke and travel restrictions until cooler weather and more precipitation arrive. Aircraft from Calgary aided land crews by water bombing hot spots.

Aircraft Water-bombs Forest Fire at Duck Mountain
A Canso amphibian plane from Canspee Air Transport Calgary equipped with pontoons and wheels joined the Duck Mountain fire fight on Thursday August 31. The crew of five from Calgary conducted water drops every 15 minutes until rain Saturday eased the blaze.

Minor Fires Kept In Check in Dauphin Area
The Dauphin Volunteer Fire department responded to several minor fires in the Dauphin area last week. None were serious and all were extinguished within minutes of arrival. The first incident Sunday August 97 involved an oil tank car near White Rose service station. A second incident Thursday August 31 involved a storage shed. Continued on page 6 Col. 3.
