Ottawa pledges advance on stored grain after federal cabinet wheat committee and western delegation meet. Dauphin district yields expected at about twenty bushels per acre.

The Manitoba department announces the longest open season for upland game birds Hungarian partridge ruffed grouse and game chicken will run from October to October 15 inclusive due to a plentiful supply of birds.
The National has added space for more grain. United Grain Growers estimate an extra 60 000 bushels can be stored with the new annex. The Searle Grain Co expects to begin work on an annex before week’s end.
E N McGann president of the Veterans Home Guard and Manitoba Volunteer Reserve will lead a parade from the armoury to the skating arena for a concert. The event marks the first in a series to foster patriotism through neighborly gatherings of citizens from all walks.
One hundred eight men from the Dauphin district registered for air field work at the Dauphin Employment office between 9 and noon on Wednesday. The total now stands at 952 men seeking such jobs. The office is swamped, and about two hundred more workers are expected to be needed next week for air field buildings. Some harvest workers stay in town hoping for air field jobs.
British war evacuee Marion Porter age seven and Raymond Porter eight arrive at Dauphin with identification discs from Jen’s Overseas Reception Board. They stay with Mr and Mrs Darwin Chase while awaiting placement through the Children’s Aid Society. Also arriving are Shetland brothers Ronald and George Davison aged 13 and 10 who travel with C A Patrick from Winnipeg. They tour Dauphin and taste a hot dog for the first time while awaiting homes.
A total of 1063 pupils registered in Dauphin schools as classes opened. Enrollment drops from 1137 last year with 240 in Collegiate, 18 in Grade 12, and 257 at McKenzie. Whitmore has 306 pupils, Smith-Jackson 260, and illness kept many home while about fifty more are expected to enroll.
The fall nursing training class opened at Dauphin General Hospital on Tuesday September 2 with six students enrolled. The six include Dorothy Verrall Flin Filton Anita Winthrop Franklin Jean Stewart Stonewall Helen Peterson Minneapolis Betty Skeet McCreary and Audrey Rose Canora Sask. The probationary course runs under superintendent Mrs C Sutherland Jones and instructor Miss Margaret Barbour Victoria BC.
The Herald reports swift progress on Dauphin airfields with P W Graham arriving to supervise as twelve cars of material arrive by Wednesday noon. An average of twenty cars daily is expected for six weeks while Fraser MacDonald Construction begins hangars and drill hall within a week. Contracts for No 10 bombing and gunnery school near Dauphin total about $400000 each, with No 14 service flying training school contracts at $337214 for buildings and $441500 for hangars and drill hall. Western Steel Products handles sheet metal work.
