Reopening of The Collegiate and Two Public Schools

On Tuesday the Collegiate and two public schools resumed after summer break. The teaching staff includes COLLEGIATE and Science-G combined classes with J. Two New Elevators for Dauphin

Contracts let for two modern elevators in Dauphin. The Dauphin Milling and Creamery Co will build a 40000 bushel structure on the millsite. Mclaughlin Elevator Co of Winnipeg will erect a similar 40000 bushel building on the railway right of way east of the Massey Harris warehouse. Harper Elevator Construction Co of Winnipeg has secured the contracts.

Red Cross Work Totals From Local Chapters

Local Red Cross notes show La Verandrye Chapter delivering 8 pairs of socks from 1.C.D.E. and Baptist Willing Workers sending 5 suites and 8 pairs of socks. Presbyterian Cross Workers contributed 9 suits, 1 coat, and other items totaling 29,234 pairs of socks, 9 dresses, 60 suits, 54 towels and face cloths, plus 2 personal property bags.

The Whispering Chorus at Star Theatre

The Whispering Chorus, a Cecil B. de Mille photoplay, plays Friday and Saturday at Star Theatre. A tale of self sacrifice unfolds superbly and this production is billed as unusually moving and not to be missed. admission 10 and 15 cents.

Inspector Gurton Heads to Pas Over Liquor Probes

Inspector E. H. Gurton left on Wednesday for the Pas where three local druggists face charges for selling liquor contrary to the Manitoba Temperance Act.

Judge Delivers Five Year Sentence in Sherwood Trial

W. J. Sherwood was tried before Judge Bonnycastle on the 30th altar for a suspected offense. He was found guilty and sentenced to five years in the penitentiary.

Lawrence man acquitted in forgery case at county court

On the 20th alt N D Huddlestone of Lawrence appeared before Judge Bonnycastle charged with forgery. He was secretary treasurer of a school district and accused of cashing a cheque raised from $20 to $25. Evidence was contradictory and Huddlestone was acquitted.

Dauphin Home Economics Society Meets on Sept 10

The Dauphin Home Economics Society will convene at the town hall on Tuesday September 10 at 3 30 pm. Mr McFadden explains the new Dower Law which began September 1 and may prompt Manitoba women to voice opinions in November. The meeting is open to all and Valley River H E & ladies are invited to join.

La Verandrye Chapter Set Monthly Meeting Date

The regular monthly business meeting of La Verandrye Chapter is Saturday at 3 PM on September 7. A knitting contest closes Saturday. bring finished socks to the meeting or leave them with captains Mrs. Walker Sr. or Mrs. Sutherland.

Progress of Harvest Report Signals Good Yield

Satisfactory progress is reported in the harvest with wheat nearly all harvested. The crop yields are good and samples are fine. Cutting oats and barley also progress well and only require favorable weather to finish promptly.

Induction Service for Rev J A Cormie at St James Church

The Friday service marked the induction of Rev J A Cormie into the St James Presbyterian pastorate. Present were speakers including Mr Nursey Rev J N Hamilton Gilbert Plains Rev F O Gilbart Rev Archibald Roblin and Rev H P Everett. A Large congregation attended as the choir led the singing and benediction was given by Rev J A Haw.

Jumble Sale Announced by Soldiers' Aid Society

The Soldiers' Aid Society announces a jumble sale on Oct st with all articles accepted. Further notices will come next week. Donations listed include Proceeds of fair day $180.75 and gifts from J. Eagle 83, Mrs Richardson 81, Mrs Highfield $3, Mrs Mahan $13.25.

Address by Mrs Colin H Campbell Inspires CD Exodus

Mrs Colin H Campbell from Winnipeg gave an instructive dress and address to La Verandrye Chapter 1, C D E. She highlighted the order as a force for national service with fifty war work phases taken since the war began. The Manitoba chapter reported over $300,000 raised in four years with strong home province empire involvement.
