Head-on Collision Kills Six In Manitoba No. 75 Crash
A head-on collision on Highway No 75 near St Jean Baptiste Manitoba Tuesday morning Aug 27 left six dead. The two drivers in the southbound province vehicle were Donald Stammen 24 and Melvin Johnson 46 of Borketon with Stammen’s wife pregnant. three others in the northbound car from Winkler include Henry J Enns 55, his wife and their 25 year old son. The victims include prominent agronomist Stammen and his father in law Johnson. the Enns couple and their son died en route or at hospital. The crash also claimed two others in the southbound vehicle and killed Edward in the other car. Survivors and relatives are listed across the Stammen and Enns families rooted in Manitoba and neighboring provinces.

Indian Students Arrive From North for School Term
One hundred eighty one Indian students arrive for the fall term at the Mackay school. A group of 32 traveled by bus from The Pas on Saturday, with the remainder arriving Monday afternoon by bus from Hodgson and Winnipeg to attend schools at Portage la Prairie Birtle and Punnichy Sask.

Closing Of Pennarun School Marks Long Local History
Due to declining enrollment the Pennarun School east of Ste. Rose will close. The district transfers land to pupils on Oct 1. The first register shows 14 pupils. teacher Miss J.A. Les attended a two day convention and earned 50 dollars monthly. The early school replaced an older building that had become too small for growth.

Enrollment rose across Dauphin schools as classes opened, with 1 818 students registered.
