The Federated War Fund association of Dauphin holds its annual meeting next Monday evening in the Town hall. The group will review the past year and discuss plans for the 1941 campaign, inviting all interested residents to attend at 8 o clock.
The central salvage committee in Dauphin invites all organizations and service clubs to send one or two delegates to a September 12 meeting to plan the drive and set up a material collection system. The campaign aims to begin by mid month with volunteer efforts to sort and prepare salvable materials.
Last week rainfall reached 49 inches with total since April at 52 inches. The same period in 1940 recorded 10.94 inches.
Soviet forces under Marshal Voroshilov pressed a counterattack along the Leningrad front driving Germans back across a river and advancing into a neighboring village. Heavy Russian counterattacks continued on the eastern front with large Soviet tanks reported out of action. British bombers hit Berlin in a major raid as air losses and fires mounted, with Archibald Sinclair urging U.S. production of heavy bombers to hasten the war’s end.

Mrs. Kahne reports Sunday vandalism at the British War Relief Society in New York City. Plate glass windows and a Churchill portrait were damaged by rocks, though nothing was stolen. Police were alerted and the building insured.
To Speak Over CJRC A J Marsh former editor of The Dauphin Herald will be heard Sunday morning over C J RC in a broadcast interview of airmen to R D Colquette. The program begins at 9 45 a m Mr Marsh is training as a radio technician at the University of Manitoba.
The Herald reports that wheat threshing in the Dauphin district is nearly finished though several car loads of coarse grains remain to be completed this week.
Dauphin youths and teachers await the school board decision on the cadet controversy. Alex Katz reports a settlement reached in Ottawa between air and army cadet supporters, with an imminent air cadet headquarters announcement. The plan may place Dauphin under an air cadet unit due to nearby RC A F air schools and ensured training support.
Jas. Graham night constable sustained slight chest injuries and shock when a vehicle owned and driven by Sgt. Pilot W. G. Smith of Dauphin rolled over just outside the town on the west highway Monday evening. Sgt. Smith and a second occupant escaped harm. the car was badly damaged.
Dauphin merchants vote 34 to 13 to extend the Thursday half holiday to all year, with stores to close Thursday afternoons now permanent. The by law amendment will take effect Sept 11 after council completes formal wording. Labor Day affects Sept 4 holiday.
