Bracken government to carry on with Liberal Progressives

Premier Bracken will lead a 30 member majority after a Liberal Progressive caucus authorized continuing government with cabinet reorganization including a minister of education, agriculture, and provincial treasurer. Conservatives rejected a coalition, ending further parleys.

Peter McArthur 94 Winnipegosis Pioneer Dies Friday

Peter McArthur 94 of Winnipegosis died Friday. A pioneer lumberman, he built the Prince Rupert steamboat in 1871 at Broken Head River and the Saskatchewan in 1886 at Lake Manitoba. He later founded Standard Lumber Co. in Winnipegosis and retired about ten years ago. He married Pauline Bratnab er in 1870 and leaves three sons Duncan Charles Alexander John E and two daughters Mrs Medd and Mrs Rutledge with another daughter Eva deceased. Funeral held at the Presbyterian church with James Young and Rev N R Wright officiating.

M Wick Honored At Farewell In St Pauls Church

Members and vestrymen of St. Pauls Anglican church held a farewell for M. Wick in the church basement last Friday evening. An inscribed address and a club bag were given to express regret and best wishes for Mr and Mrs Wick. Attending were F. Patrick R. W. James Chas Padley H. J. Atkins Jas Brown A. Middleditch Rev H. E. Reorganization Await Bracken Arrival In Alliance Cabinet

The Bracken cabinet will not be reorganized until the premier returns from Ottawa in about a week. John Bracken plans to leave Tuesday for a drought relief conference with the Dominion government. Bracken's return remains uncertain for resuming provincial treasurer duties as ministers weigh the treasury burden.

The Manitoba Horse Athletic Club junior group will meet at 7 30 p m Wednesday Sept 9 in the Armoury for an organization session. All who plan to attend the season gymnasium should be present. Mr Plumm from Safeway Ltd will assist with winter training. Senior group date to be announced later.

A Herald reporter finds the Dominion census total for Dauphin including surrounding districts. Town of Dauphin 4151, Ellen Park 143, River Heights 129, Westmore 185, Crescent 53, Lake View 12, sum 4673. The broader area is treated as the town for business and education purposes.

Car Crash in Sifton Injures Boy and Damages Vehicle

A Sunday accident at Sifton involved Stanley Wichrowsky driving Andrew Shymen’s car from Dauphin. He lost control, the car plunged into a ditch opposite Petryk's Hotel, badly damaging the vehicle and causing a facial cut to little Walter Wichrowsky.

Dauphin Camp Attracts Over Two Thousand Tourists This Season

More than two thousand visitors used the Dauphin Tourist Camp with 552 cars recorded by August 31 averaging over four people per car. Cabins sold briskly after enlarging the camp with a new two room bungalow from the open air kitchen. Movement was heaviest July 1 to mid August and several hundred more are expected before October.

Swan River Church Honors Rev F C Middleton

Swan River United Church bids farewell to Rev F C Middleton and his wife Mrs Middleton as ill health ends his pastorate for a year. J B Peach chairs the farewell, with J Crawley and women’s organizations. Middleton led youth work and the men’s forum. Mrs Middleton active in missionary groups. They will reside temporarily in Dauphin.

W J McLean Becomes Secretary at Ochre River

W J McLean former Souris municipal staff member has assumed the secretary treasurer role for the Rural Municipality of Ochre River. A Souris resident for 34 years he was active in hockey promotion locally. Council met in Ochre River on Saturday August 8 1936 with Reeve John L Rose presiding.

Successful Garden Show at Ochre River Exposition

The Ochre River Horticultural Society held its fall exhibit Saturday with awards by noon. Top vegetable winners included Melvin Thomson and Rev W R Donagh, while the Women’s Institute won flower displays and names such as Mrs Wm Thomson and E V Archibald appear among the champions.

Dauphin Citizens' Band Reorganizes At Meeting

Dauphin Citizens' Band reorganization approved at a well attended Monday night meeting. A promotion committee will include Land officers and a business men's representative. Elected officers include Mayor D. D. McDonald as Hon. Pres and Leonard Stelck as Band Manager.

New Record by Grade XII Students at Dauphin Collegiate

Grade XII at Dauphin Collegiate set a new record with an 80 percent pass rate for 1935 1936 after including June examination options. The prior ten year high average was 81.5 percent with Grade XI at 86.8 percent, and 160 papers written in June with 147 passed.

Local Legion Has Charge of Funeral For Fred Little

Comrades from the Great War and many citizens gathered to honor Fred Little who died in St Boniface Hospital. The funeral at United Church and Riverside Cemetery was led by Dr D K Burns and Legion members with a guard of honor at the church and cemetery. Bugler Marshall Cathcart played Last Post and Reveille as veterans paid tribute and placed poppies on the flag draped coffin.
