Operation TEACHERAGE sees twelve by twenty four foot teacherages moved to new rural sites. Built in the Composite High workshop, these insulated 12 x 24 units feature kitchenette living spaces, built in stoves and cupboards, Jasper brick exteriors, green roofs, radio aerials, and wiring for electricity. Construction began late July and took about a month with transport by truck.
With six weeks to nomination day for municipal elections the Dauphin school area revises its electors list to create a seventh ward incorporating rural Dauphin consolidated district. The area board expands by one seat with M F Szewczyk announcing vacancies in Wards 1 2 3 4 and town. residents in four wards will elect the new member for a two year term.
Bert Bateman was elected president of the Dauphin commercial ten pin bowling league at the organizational meeting last week. Andy Newton was named vice president Denny Kells treasurer and Johnny Kay secretary. The league will again operate with eight teams and the season opens Sept 17. The ladies five pin league will organize for the coming season at a general meeting to be held this Thursday in the town hall.
Robert Dalton named schools inspector for a new inspectorate covering Gilbert Plains Ethelbert and Mossey River. Former Russell principal will reside in Gilbert Plains and begin duties overseeing the three municipalities.
The new Casbah film brings Yvonne DeCarlo Tony Martin and Peter Lorre to the Dauphin Theatre for a midnight Sunday premiere in the forbidden quarter of Algiers. Selected short subjects round out the program.
Dauphin residents faced near record heat with a high of 64.2 degrees on August 31 matching wet July days. The all time summer peak reached 87.9 on August 19 while weekly precipitation totaled 0.12 inches. Farmers fear harvest disruptions due to unwelcome rainfall.
Local coal dealers urge households to arrange early fall furnace coal deliveries as demand rises nationwide after September. Garden work delays orders, but with summer ending, supplies should be available while winter fuel shipments may tighten later.

D Y P A surged to a 14 to 2 victory over Cruises to grab an early lead in the best of five final series for the 48 season. Mitchener powered the win with a strong home run showing as L Y P A built an early four run lead and held on. Semifinal results saw D Y P A sweep Eaton 85 to 7 and 6 to 4 while Cruise defeated Anglo 4 to 1 and 6 to 4 to advance.
Mrs Henry Arubise received first degree burns to hands and left arm in a home canning mishap Tuesday afternoon. She was alone when the kettle upset and she slipped, and her husband took her to Dauphin General Hospital where her condition was reported as fairly good Wednesday morning.
A new school van service began Wednesday with the rail term opening. The area board arranged a ten mile north route along the Winnipegosis road to bring high school students living north of town to school, serving more than 10 pupils.
Members of the Dauphin Lions club resume regular luncheon meetings starting Thursday September 1 at 12 15 pm. The new meeting place is the Legion hall.
The Dauphin Elks Lodge No. 57 voted 500 for the Dauphin Memorial and Community Centre fund at its last meeting, adding to about 375 donated during the year. The lodge also supports various local causes and serves on multiple committees while aiding DMCC events.
S Solomon veteran councilor and businessman of Dauphin will leave the town at the end of September to reside in Ottawa. He has run a tailoring business since 1917 and served 18 years on the town council. He is past master of the Masonic lodge and chairman of the public library board since 1938. His wife is active in local organizations and their three children hold positions in New Jersey and Ottawa. The Tip Top agency he held will transfer to the Peoples Store.
A contract signed with the town of Dauphin calls for 13 one family dwellings by January 1, 1950. Builders J L Allard and G C Dowler will develop on Edgar avenue in Lovering park with frontage of 50 feet each and one 64 foot corner lot. Homes valued at least 2500 dollars per town enpinder using materials from Paulson airport buildings.
An information bulletin reports pasmo, a flax fungus, in early stages in the valley area. The advisory urges prompt threshing, seed cleaning, and mercury dust seed treatment to reduce seed borne spread, with early sowing on weed free land and crop rotation to limit outbreaks.
