The Dauphin Herald reports Dr Betts and officials opening a regional exhibition. Winners include W J Boughen Valley River Nurseries for championship in sratie and Ed Sanderson Hopwood Cup in vegetables. Mrs T Gorby wins Rotary Club Cup amateur championship. Every exhibitor won at least one prize.
Rey Macdonel recounts contrasts between old and new Winnipegosis and the lake town’s fishery boom. He recalls early trails Macdonel and Geekie, a death journey to Captain Macdonel, and notes the town’s prosperity on a dawn visit, with more to come on page four.
Miss Gertrude Cooper and Miss Grace Shield of the Public School staff returned Wednesday from a summer holiday across Ontario. They visited Muskoka Lakes Peterborough Toronto and Niagara Falls and traveled home via the Great Lakes to Duluth. In Toronto they attended the World's Federation of Education Associations conference in August.
Tournament finals and prize distribution are postponed with semifinals underway. Out of town players join spectators as Mrs J E Delmage and Miss C Tritschler lead in singles and mixed doubles. semifinals set for both men and mixed events with teams including Stewart Lear McLean and McDermid.
Municipal commissioner's tax levy for 1927 totals 4187.73, down from 5675.84 in 1926, with the council reducing the rate to 2 mills from 2 percent last year. The levy breaks down into Supplementary Revenue etc Child Welfare 729.68 Soldiers' Relief 277.60 Municipal Guarantees 45.00 and other items.
The Kildonan and Dauphin Rangers clash follows a Thursday league fixture where the C N R edged the Rangers 2 1. Top news urges huge Labor Day crowd as Minnedosa faces Winnipeg Celtics in Portage la Prairie final after today’s matchups.
Rev John Kitchen spoke at Grace United Church on Monday about China under revolution. He cited three forces behind the upheaval militarism nationalism and communism noting militarism as the chief curse. He praised the church as the stabilizing force and predicted a future Chinese church led by Chinese leadership.
The Brierley Cup handicap week lists Ray Smith versus E Kliski and W Pocklington against W Easterbrook with other pairings as well as Pocklington Cup Ladies Championship matchups and Hebberlin Cup open play. Qualifying rounds for Sept 1 and 4 determine 16 players for the main cup with holes counted. A consolation prize draw follows for remaining finalists.

Hon Peter Heenan minister of labor in the Dominion government spent a day in Dauphin and Gilbert Plains. A civic welcome with Mayor J W Skinner and railway staff marked the visit. Heenan toured the district viewed crops and lake scenes and held talks with railway organizations. The Riding Mountain proposal for national park status was raised but received no definite position.
Lola Caldwell daughter of the late H F Caldwell wed Arthur Charles Nicholls son of Mr and Mrs E F Nicholls Vancouver B C at 9 pm on Wednesday August 31 Rev F C Middleton officiated. The couple left by east bound train for Detroit and will reside in Winnipeg at St Julien Apts McMillan Ave after returning. Syd Chaplin stars in The Missing Link at the Dauphin Theatre Friday and Saturday of this week.
Cement pouring for exterior and interior basement walls began Tuesday under Geo Kennedy who also oversees the new school. The W H A will fund solarium additions costing 1200 to 1500 dollars. Foundations and piers for the municipal rink are finished with Robt McAllister supervising rink construction.
More than five hundred youngsters gathered on Main Street for transport to the lake for the Dauphin Lodge BPOE 57 annual picnic. The day featured flag raising, supervised sports, bathing, and midday and evening luncheons with return transport organized by the committee.
A special meeting of all scout patrol leaders is set for 7 p.m. Friday September 2 in the Boy Scout building to organize the upcoming fall scout program.
The 60,000 bushel elevator built by the Manitoba Wheat Pool in Dauphin opened this week. The first shipper was J. Koshowski of Keld, delivering four loads of rye, marking the new facility’s debut.
Mrs Dane McCarthy of Ste Rose recovering from being run over by horses and will soon leave hospital. On Friday the 26th the institution housed 33 patients, admitted eight and discharged ten with ten operations that day. Helen Merrick had tonsils removed. Mrs Adam Stark admitted for treatment on the 28th. Hugh McMillan and Ernest Gilpin, RCMP, noted as patients. Eilene Storgarrd of Ochre River operated for ruptured appendix on the 24th.
Miss Marion Park of Winnipeg visits Dauphin with friends. Miss Viola Smith and her brother Arthur return from a holiday at Langenburg Saskatchewan. Mrs H V Smith and family back from visits at Strathclair Russell and Roblin. Mrs Musgrave returns to Regina after visits in Dauphin Winnipeg and Saskatoon. Also a brief ad urges radio battery power from Eveready via Sutherland and Stelck Ltd.
