Bear Outwits Farm Animals In Ethelbert Heist

A clever bear at Ethelbert entered Frank Pelchatz’s granary and stole several bricks of butter. The bear forced a window from its frame to escape, then moved to a neighbor’s farm to seize a can of milk before fleeing.

Robert Cruise Renominated by Liberal Conservatives

Robert Cruise was renominated at a Dauphin area nominating convention attended by many. Hubert Greenway presided, James Bowman nominated Cruise for re election citing past support of the Meighen government. Other speakers backed Cruise as the unanimous choice amid criticisms of Grain Growers Association irregularities presented by Henderson. Cruise spoke in detail about his stewardship.

Threshers Experience Narrowly Avoid Serious Fire

A threshing crew on Jas Malcolm and Vernal Warrian's ranch faced a close call when stray loaded shells from duck hunters ignited straw in a feeder and fed into the threshing machinery. Flames flashed through the feeder and into the mill but were kept under control by increasing engine speed and blowing ash over the straw stack. If not for late night timing and tough straw, damage could have been far worse with about a thousand bushels present.

Death of Mrs Geo King Frances Anna Chisholm

Frances Anna Chisholm wife of Geo King died after months of illness on October 24. A 23 year town resident since 1899 she helped shape local movements and held roles in Woman's Hospital Aid Society Council of Women La Verendrye Chapter I C C E Presbyterian Ladies Aid and Rebekah lodge. Survived by husband three sons and a daughter. Funeral Wednesday at St James Presbyterian with Rebekah Lodge and I C D E in attendance. Interment Riverside Cemetery.

Inquest Opened Into Death of Duncan Crerar

An inquest will be held today at Winnipegosis into the death of Duncan Crerar who died after a wagon accident last week. Crerar, a long time Winnipegosis farmer and cousin of Progressive Party leader A F Crerar, was married with several children. He was widely known and respected in the district. The incident involved his team of horses taking fright and throwing him from the wagon causing a fatal brain injury.

Hogg versus Benito Farmers Elevator Co case adjourned

The case of Hogg versus Benito Farmers Elevator Co Ltd continued before Justice Galt and counsel Bow man Munson for the plaintiff and Phillipe KC and Macdonald for the defense. Witnesses testified to barley grade and shipping authority while the elevator man admitted grain mixing and lack of specific instructions. Arguments to be heard in Winnipeg Friday.

New Dauphin Theatre Seeks Free Range Film Selections

The News reports the New Dauphin Theatre will feature films from about fourteen distributing companies in Winnipeg with free selection. No titles are locked to contracts. early strong shows include Over The Hill and Dangerous Curve Ahead. A prize draw drew 627 letters, with Edith Jones winning first prize by suggesting Dauphin’s own theatre name.
