Veterans Banquet Hears Wartime England Talk
Squadron Leader George Sellers told about first impressions of England before Dunkirk and life in London during air raids while addressing about 250 veterans and wives at the Great War Veterans reunion and banquet in the Town hall. He joined the 112th City of Winnipeg squadron in 1940 and served in England nearly a year, noting the low balloon barrage, rationing, and many uniforms.

Brandon College Student George Campbell Injured in Crash
George Campbell son of Mr and Mrs Wm Campbell of Dauphin and arts student at Brandon College was seriously hurt in a car accident near Souris Saturday evening. He suffered two leg fractures and a fractured skull and was out of danger by Wednesday. He remains in Souris hospital for several weeks after stepping from his car to inspect a flat tire when a truck struck from behind.

Payroll plan proves popular with war savers
Dauphin’s War Savings committee reports strong take up for the payroll deduction plan as part of the drive to fund the first Universal Carrier. About 85.3 percent of firms with five or more employees are on a payroll pledge, and roughly 66.6 percent of small offices and stores participate. If honor pledges were counted, regular savers could rise to 81 percent and overall coverage to over 95 percent. The canvass emphasizes sustaining monthly contributions for the carrier and the war effort.
