Mrs. J A McPhee Re elected Horticultural Society President

Mrs J A McPhee was re elected president of the Dauphin Horticultural Society at its annual meeting held Friday evening in the Legion hall. The 104 attendees heard a year in review, welcomed four new directors, and noted Mr Peter Kiez as representative for the agricultural office. The event featured a minute of silence for the late Mrs John Burkhan, a long time honey exhibitor.

Collegiate UNICEF Drive Raises 469 For Fund

Dauphin collegiate students canvassed the town on Halloween night with 37 collectors and UNICEF boxes, raising 469.34 to aid UNICEF. Mrs. Harry Wilson organized counting. The effort, now in its seventh year, reflects youth helping children worldwide through education and self funded aid.

Area Teachers Salaries Analyzed For 1963 64 Year

A Dauphin-Ochre Area school system salary review shows 132 teachers on staff for 1963 64 with total annual salaries of 595470. Monthly payroll is 49622 50. Salaries range from 2500 to 11500 with figures by bracket and counts, and average per teacher tabulated by the area board office.

Winter Works For Park Set At $135,000

A $135,000 winter works project for Riding Mountain national park was announced by National Resources Minister Arthur Laing. The program runs as part of the park's development plan and starts immediately, offering about 270 man-months of local labor to improve visitor facilities. In 1963, from April 1 to Sept 30, nearly 534,000 people visited the park.

Dennison Motors Expands Dauphin Showroom With New Lighting

Dennison Motors on Dauphin Main Street South adds a 150 by 130 foot terrace for new and used cars. The lot features more than 100 lights, a large neon sign by Brandon Sign Works, and elevates Dauphin as a business center. The Dennison family history in the business spans from 1946, with Denny Dennison starting the venture and son Ray later taking ownership in 1960.

Two Small Town Fires Cause Little Damage

Weekend alarms sparked by hot ashes from a demolished barn on the Perepeluk property near town caused minimal harm. A separate grass fire at the end of Keyes avenue was extinguished with no damage reported.

Postmaster W J Quick announces overseas mailing deadlines for Christmas parcels and letters. A record 110000 copies of a 600 page Manitoba telephone directory will be mailed to subscribers outside Winnipeg, up 6000 from last year. Dauphin delivery starts Nov 12 via Lions Club. rural subscribers may pick up. The edition expands white pages to about 400 and yellow pages to 200 with a DDD Manitoba area code 204 page.

Progress on Mt Agassiz ski chalet and lifts advances

Excellent progress on the Mt. Agassiz chalet at Riding Mountain National Park with construction and T bar and rope tow lifts underway. A 3200 foot lift line with 13 towers will carry 960 skiers per hour to the summit in about eight minutes, plus additional rope tow improvements and a new west run.
