Widespread U S prison riots erupt as Governor Stevenson flies to Menard to end the siege at Chester Illinois. Ohio penitentiary violence costs about 1 million dollars as National Guardsmen mobilize. Oregon hunger strike ends after threats of force. British judges raise long sentences amid rising violent crime. Korea fighting lasts its bloodiest stretch as Chinese forces attack key ridges near Kumhwa and Triangle Hill, inflicting heavy Allied losses.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower defeats Adlai Stevenson by at least 3 million votes. Eisenhower carries the North and West and breaks Democratic strength in the South. The election sets a record for the heaviest vote in U.S. history.
Dauphin Kings fans may buy reserve seats starting Thursday as the D M C C arena committee outlines the 1952 53 Big Six hockey schedule. Bruce C. Goodhand a Dauphin pharmacist received a life membership in the Dauphin Agricultural Society in recognition of long membership and years of service. He joined the society directorate in 1923 for a 29 year record and later became the second life member, after Theo Bodnar in 1950.
Mountview Swine Judging Team departs Winnipeg on Monday for Toronto to compete at the National 4-H club meet alongside six other teams. Dean Durston and Ken Forbes lead the team with Vaughn as brother, visiting after previous successes in Dauphin and Ste. Rose events. The trip includes five days at the Royal Winter Fair with side visits to Hamilton, Niagara Falls, and Ottawa before returning.
The Dauphin health unit reports the first poliomyelitis case in over a month, with no new cases since. The patient recovered enough to be moved to Winnipeg for special care, while earlier summer cases included two confirmed polio patients treated locally and one mild paralysis case from Grandview.
