Dauphin Hospital Expands With New Wing For Extended Care

The Dauphin General Hospital reports progress on a three storey wing planned to house active treatment and chronic care it aims to become an accredited hospital. Directors Dr C S Robertson Mrs H A Breslaw and Miss Rhoda Tucker were re elected to three year terms. Construction costs are projected at 1 446 299 with several thousand remain after grants and donations.

Stammen Named 4H Specialist for Manitoba Agriculture

Donald J. Stammen has been appointed as a 4-H specialist with Manitoba’s Extension Service. He will help develop and supervise the province’s 4-H program from his Winnipeg headquarters after earning a BSc in agriculture from the University of Manitoba.

Free TB Testing And X Ray Starts In Dauphin

The TB free skin testing and chest X Ray survey begins Friday June 9 for all Dauphin residents and rural municipality residents. Appointment cards go to house to house survey recipients but all residents may choose their own date if not yet scheduled. The full testing dates are listed on page 7.

Three Dauphin Cadets to Receive Master Cadet Awards

Three Dauphin youths will receive Master Cadet Awards after an annual inspection of the 76th Field by Cadet Officer Captain Brian Munro. Recipients include LT. Finsman, Sgt. Kerr, and R M Torrie, among 21 Manitoba cadets selected for a national camp at Banff in July.

Appeal Launched for Donations to Dauphin Hospital

Donors are urged to support the Dauphin General Hospital new wing with equipment and furnishings following the governors meeting. A semi private ward costs about 1500 dollars to furnish and gifts may be commemorated with an inscribed plaque. Details and needs are available from hospital administrator John Lysak.

Achievement day at Duck Bay school shows modern progress

An achievement day at Duck Bay school north of Dauphin highlighted the modern nine room school. Hon. Stewart E. McLeen and Hon. John B Carroll attended, praising students and the sisters for clean desks, bright rooms, and care taken by pupils. A fashion show and musical selections capped the program with praise for the community’s education efforts.

Mayors attend Canadian Federation meeting in Halifax

Mayor Harold Mobberley and Mrs Mobberley left Friday for Halifax to attend the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities annual convention. He represents Dauphin and serves as vice president of the Manitoba Urban Association, and will be away ten days.

CNRE Officials Plan Banquet and Events

The CNRE meeting on Thursday May 15 lists officers J H May president and Mrs P A Farrell treasurer. A banquet is planned for June 25 on Avenue half, with a year of activities including a 40 event tournament and poetry and drawing items.

Dauphin Town Hikes Tax Rate and School Levy

The Dauphin town council increased the town levy by five mills to 46 mills for 1961, with 26 mills for school requirements and a special school levy. The municipal board confirmed the area apportionment for 1961, with the town receiving about 60.49 percent ($141,702) of the $234,225 regional requirement. The 1961 budget totals $352,982.86, up from $333,002.39 in 1960, and the town's real property assessment stands at $8,408,230. An information brochure will be mailed with the tax notices.
