Tragic Death of Capt. D. McIntosh in Victoria

Capt. David McIntosh dies after being struck by a car on Government Street in Victoria. Injuries sustained when the vehicle, driven by Mrs. E. Winn, struck him as he crossed the street. he dies an hour later at Jubilee hospital. He had lived in Victoria for years after earlier settlements in Dauphin and Winnipeg. He leaves three daughters, including Miss Helen, a nurse at the front.

Dauphin Fair Sets Aug 8 and 10 Prizes at $2500

Winnipegosis Man May 28 A boating accident off Red Point Lake Winnipegosis ends in the drowning of Carl Swanson nine miles from Winnipegosis and three quarters from Flets With Wa Johnson of Gimli helping Swanson for over three hours Johnson loses his coat and shoes then reaches shore amid a heavy sea and later returns with Rudenez tug to recover the body Swanson and Johnson are well known in town with many friends Swanson is described as a fine unassuming young man

Dauphin Lodge Conferred First Degree in Grandview

About thirty members of Dauphin lodge No. completed the first degree at the Odd Fellows lodge in Grandview. They traveled by car, attended supper, and heard an after dinner speech by Rev. R. E. Spence. On the return trip G. A. Hunter and four others walked after their car stalled in a soft spot eight miles out.

Hundreds of Ladies Register in Town During Registration

The town saw 806 registrations in three days led by the Council of Women with a 90 percent female rate. A dramatic moment occurred when a middle aged lady asked if she must state her age and Clerk Chard answered that no gentleman asks a lady her age.

Canadian Soldiers Mourned Names of Five Killed

Pte Harold Grosse of Dauphin and Pte W A McCleary of Minicanas were killed. Pte R G Dai of Gilbert Plains and Pte H Nicodemus of Ochre Kivyer died of wounds.

Staffing Changes At Local School At Term End

Aspiring Potato King Seeks Dauphin Title

J L McKay aims for the Potato King honor in Dauphin after planting 22 acres with about 247 bushels seed. He used around a dozen varieties and expects roughly 800 bushels per acre, totaling about 6500 bushels, with an advance offer of 1 dollar per bushel for the entire crop.
