Second Annual Musical Festival Shines At Dauphin Schools
The Daw pho School Districts held their second annual festival with 65 entries and nearly a thousand voices from Dauphin and surrounding towns. Miss Ethel Kinley of Winnipeg judged the contests, with A. Marshall Neal as platform marshal and Miss Ethel Cadman as accompanist. Winners span Rotary Club trophy to Dauphin trophies across rural and high school classes, with a concert in the town hall concluding the event. Attendance was modest, but organizers praised the effort and the artistic gains among the youth.

Reeve Wickes Criticizes the Child Welfare Act
Harry R. Stratford alias Hartford of Virginia was sentenced to six months in jail by Magistrate Graham in Winnipeg after pleading guilty to 23 fraud charges. He ran a magazine scam targeting nurses in Dauphin and across Manitoba, collecting funds for a nurses periodical that was never delivered. Police say up to 123 charges could have been laid. Stratford claimed he kept names of nurses he cheated and planned repayment when finances improved.

Two Boys Injured in Car Collision Near Town
Howard McEwen and Steve Bundt wick were injured when their car driven by Bert McCorvie collided with Robi Gorby’s vehicle at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and First Street South near town. A cracker in his hip pocket exploded when he attempted to reseat it after fearing it would not go off, burning from thigh to knee. He freed his belt and removed his trousers to escape.
