Preliminary Hearing for Dr Fox Set in Dauphin

Dr S W Fox MLA for Gilbert Plains and Social Credit leader in Manitoba faces a preliminary hearing on a charge of attempting to perform an illegal operation. He surrendered in Winnipeg and was remanded to Dauphin with 5000 cash and 5000 own recognizance. Police swore information alleging he used surgical instruments for an illegal operation on December 21, 1936 at Gilbert Plains Manitoba.

Deadline Tuesday for dairy calf and colt fair entries

Boys and girls planning to exhibit dairy calves and colts at the Dauphin Agricultural Society Summer Fair July 8 9 10 must file entries with secretary Dr O McGuirk by next Tuesday June 1st. Early entry ensures supervision before the show as awards depend on care fitting and showmanship. No entries will be received after June 1st.

Grandmothers Gather for Winnipegosis Reception

In Winnipegosis on Friday May 21 the town’s grandmothers were honored by the Women’s Institute. Twenty two pioneer mothers shared memories over refreshments and music. Awards went to the oldest and youngest grandmothers and to the one with the most grandchildren.

Dauphin Town Hikes Tax to Meet Relief Expenditure

The Dauphin town council voted to raise the tax rate by 64 mills for 1937 to fund relief, with the general levy at 16 mills and the school rate up 14 mills to 32 mills. Council discussed salaries for officials, approved a grant to the Citizens Welfare Association, and authorized a new GMC pickup for the electric light department amid water rate protests. Mayor McDonald and seven councillors attended.
