Captain Scrase, supervisor of the Deck Mountain forest reserve, returned from Shevlin where over three men battled two large fires north of town. The blazes spread over a wide area but did not reach the timber. A separate fire north of Grandview and another near Strevel were reported as started by a careless discarded match.
The tennis season starts at Grandview today with Dauphin club representatives including Miss Bossons Miss Astley Messrs. Bowman Mc Donald McKy and Ramsay competing.
The secretary records thanks for donations including 11 suits of pyjamas from St James Presbyterian Patriotic Service Club 5 suits pyjamas dressing gowns 33 pairs of socks from Dauphin Plains Workers and various cash gifts from H Danning J M Henry Avon R Hawkins Miss A E Code James McLeod and the Dauphin Plains Workers totaling 380 dollars.
Rev H P Everett urges families to attend Mothers Day services with a morning program and an address by the pastor. The evening theme is The Finished Work. Miss Jessie Findley will lecture illustrated at the Baptist Church Monday at 8. Rev A E Hooke from Togo Preaches Sunday with three brothers at battlefront. The morning subject is Rewards and children receive a Sermonette. Evening service at 7 focuses on restoring love.
The second annual Macneill silver medal oratory contest for XI students was held at Mackenzie school. Winners included Clare O Connor for Confederation with Mona McLachlan Ella Ramsey and Lorne Carson among competitors. Judges Miss Ethel Cadman Frank Simpson and R M McCaul praised the winner and audience reaction. Continuous critique urged more engaging topical analysis rather than pure historic recitation.
About twenty members of the local lodge journeyed to Grandview by special coach for the anniversary service held by Grandview brethren. Gilbert Plains and Dauphin attendees joined along with others from the Plains for a record turnout. The Rev. Thos Merryweather led the service, urging Oddfellows to fulfill their faith through friendship and brotherly love in this crisis and reconstruction era.

Joseph Clark tells the Herald he will immediately proceed with a three storey block at the Main Street and Second Avenue N.E. corner. The 70 foot deep building will fill the lot and already has tenants to capacity.
Sergt. Duncan Horner, once of Dauphin, is reported killed. Pre. Allen Fisher of Grandview and Max King of Fork River are listed as wounded in the same incident.
The Ruthenian settlement polls report many women registering on the first day, with 17 women and 3 men. J G Chard presiding as election officer and Spruce Creek relay notes indicate continued registrations on Wednesday afternoon.

Rose bought a Chevrolet. M. A. Spillett sold 21 McLaughlin cars to date. Several owners joined the Automobile club and a Grandview run is planned for Victoria Day. Rebekah lodge calls for full attendance on May 2. Dauphin Council of Women asks dealers to stop selling Jack Canuck on the 1epee. they have agreed to comply.
