Three rural schools Kosin Mountain Stream and Wood Bend will close at term end due to low enrollment. Pupils from Wood Bend will go to Makinak elementary, while bus routes will be improved with Dauphin and Ochre River councils. Area aims to boost village schools and adopt new arithmetic methods.

Dauphin Honored By Fourth Queen Scout Achievement
Dauphin local Scouts celebrate Robert Tower earning Queen Scout, the fourth in three years from Dauphin and Clarkson s unit. The Winnipeg ceremony featured Lieut Governor Erick F. Willis and 125 scouts from Manitoba and Northwest Ontario, with a luncheon and parade to the Legislative building. Randy Stowell received Cub Instructor s badge. Dauphin events included a pre ceremony badge presentation, film, and a Geront ceremony cake inscribed Queen Scout Bob 1962.

Dauphin No 50 Lt-Col Barker cadet squadron won the drill efficiency award at the Rivers rally during Air Cadet Week. They faced seven squadrons and placed second in rifle, with Neepawa taking first. Activities included volley ball bowling rifle shooting and static displays. A 268-seat mess dinner capped the event attended by Air Cadet leaders and Rivers mayor.

More than 600 people attended the first under cover junior rodeo and gymkhana in Dauphin, sponsored by the Dauphin 3D Saddle club. The DMCC arena hosted musical chairs with 15 entrants, western pleasure, junior steer riding, women’s barrel race, wild cow milking, and western reining with winners named from Dauphin and surrounding areas.
