Combines of '43 Enchants Local Audience With Dance Showcase

The Combines of '43 entertained local air schools with two performances featuring adagio ballroom numbers acrobatics and French Apache style. Betty Robertson and Pat McIntosh led a dynamic cast including Grace Law and Norma Lawrie with Kersey father and son guitarists and Ray Calder on piano. Cast Cordova the Spanish dancer and Grace Michas sang duets while Grace McCutcheon and others performed taps and modern routines. The troupe arrived Sunday for the tour with public town shows arranged and Hostess Club luncheon follows Tuesday and Wednesday shows.

Clear Lake Resort To Open Says Heaslip

O. E. Heaslip, superintendent of Riding Mountain national park, confirms that the Clear Lake resort will be open this summer. Labor shortages may cause some difficulties but should not disrupt park operations. Two caterers prepare, but food-supply permits not yet issued. Season admission remains $1 per car. no stickers issued, original receipt required for future entries.

Postmaster David Justice announced new rate rules effective April 1 exempting letters to Canadian Navy Fleet Mail Halifax or Victoria addresses and armed forces in Newfoundland Labrador CAPOS Base Ottawa. Ordinary mail to these addresses costs three cents per first ounce and two cents each additional ounce. air mail is six cents per first ounce and five cents each additional ounce.

Robt Fagen, secretary of the local ration board, announces the Dauphin district canning sugar allotment is 215 640 pounds, about 32 percent of the 680 200 pounds asked by housewives. Rural residents receive 12 pounds per person and urban residents 10 pounds. 13 200 rural and 6 300 urban applicants. Distribution of coupons begins around June 1.

Water level in Edwards Lake hits record height

Edwards Lake reached a record high of 74 inches by May 6, with levels lowered by two inches after extending cribbing on the upper dam. Council reports reinforcement will allow storing millions more gallons, noting last year’s level was ten inches lower. Coal grates for the power plant boilers are expected soon.
