Florodora Charms Dauphin Audience at Dauphin Theatre

The Dauphin Amateur Dramatic Society staged Florodora under the Dauphin Lodge auspices with H A N North directing and H Stanley Beetham conducting the music. Mrs Elmer McNab led Dolores with firm vocal expression. Mr North played Frank Abercromed while Miss D B Binkley impressed as Lady Holyrood. Eastman and Mitchell led strong supporting turns and the Florodora Sextette and orchestra contributed lively numbers to a three hour program.

Making Slow Progress on Opening of Grandview

Dauphin and Sel kirk UF M Debate on Tariff Barriers

Dauphin District UF.M and Sel kirk District U.F.M. will debate on Tuesday June 7 at Grace United Church in Dauphin starting at 8 p.m. The topic is the removal of all tariff barriers between countries and its effect on world peace. Dauphin will take the negative side.

Rebekah Convention District 13 Held at Roblin

The Rebekah convention of District No. 13 met in Roblin on May 11 with a large turnout of lodge members. After a district business session the assembly adjourned to a banquet hall for a substantial meal prepared by Mrs. Payne of Roblin. Officers elected for the next term include Past President Mrs A McDonald Gilbert Plains President Mrs H Cox Dauphin Vice President Mrs Yeo Roblin Treasurer Mrs Todd Grandview Recording Secretary Mrs Dow. A post meeting lunch was served by Evangeline Lodge.

Notice to dairy exhibitors on June 1 storage deadline

The 1927 Dauphin Fair Prize List cannot be delivered before June 1. Dairy produce class 41 section 1 requires a May pack two gallon crack of butter in cold storage by June 1. Exhibitors are asked to store exhibits at creameries by this date.

Rink By Law Carries 10 to 1 in Dauphin Vote

The by law to authorize a 15 000 debenture for a municipal rink passed 91 percent in favor with 51 against. Ward 3 turnout was high while adverse votes were few. D D McDonald said he received a tentative 104 percent investor offer for the 20 year bonds.

Referendum Discussed at Temperance Meeting in Manitoba

A temperance gathering at the First Baptist church chaired by Mayor Skinner endorsed a split referendum stance. D W F E Millson urged voting no on question one and yes on question three while supporting beer by the bottle on question two to curb beer by the glass. Dr. Millson also spoke at Grace Church praising United Church social service work with stories of rescued wayward girls and delinquent children.

Free Press Tourney Opens Dauphin Country Club Season

The Dauphin Country Club opens the season with the Free Press Tournament on May 24. Players arrange their own times, play 18 holes medal, submit scores to chairman W Robson, and the 12 lowest scores enter district inter club play. Draws listed and notes on membership, fees, and visitor rules.

Rangers and C N R Play 2-2 In Closely Fought Soccer Match

A tight spring contest ended in a 2-2 draw between Rangers and C N R. Hamilton saw a disallowed Rangers goal after 15 minutes due to prior interference, Capelle headed for CN R, Don Ball and MacArthur scored to force equality, and Baird denied Rangers late by CN R. Referee was Mr J Barker. The cup remains on display at Hopwood's store.

Principal E H Walker Dies After Paralytic Stroke

Dauphin mourns principal Edward Howson Walker known as Inspector Walker after a paralytic stroke at the Normal School led to his death. Born 1869 in Ontario he served as school inspector and later principal of the normal, active in Grace United Church and local athletics. Survived by wife four brothers and four sisters. Funeral held at Grace United Church. interment in Alliston Ontario.

Runaway Rig Hits Bottles and Milk in Town

Geo Cornwall suffered a runaway delivery rig incident near the school after blasting startled the horses. The crash destroyed about ten dollars worth of bottles and five dollars worth of milk, with the wagon and rig sustaining considerable damage as it overturned while turning a corner at the town's north end.

Provincial Police Seize Beer in Western Districts

Police under Inspector A G Cunningham searched for liquor in Bowsman Swan River Kenville Durban and Benito districts. About 73 barrels of beer were found at C Parks Bowsman and seized awaiting further action. Paul Noga was convicted of M T A infringement before Magistrate Duton Gilbert Plains and fined 200 dollars plus costs.
