Senior softball league organized with seven teams

Wednesday grounds at the Collegiate Institute host three games each Wednesday. The league adopts Manitoba Amateur Ball League rules. Teams include CNBA Indians, Teachers, Northend, Coffee Club, Bankers, and Sigmatiers. Ray Dicks elected president and Gentang J. Hunter secretary treasurer.

Mrs J Howard Bell Dies After Protracted Illness

After seven years of illness Mrs J Howard Bell of Dauphin died Friday at home in her 46th year. She was born in Neepawa and moved to Dauphin in 1886 with her parents. Survived by husband Howard Bell, son George, mother Mrs W J Farrell, three sisters and one brother. Funeral held at United Church with Rev D H Telfer. interment Riverside cemetery.

First Place in Dauphin Drama Festival Awarded to Winnipegesix Group

In the second Dauphin Drama Festival held in the town hall last Thursday and Friday the Winnipegesix Dramat ic Beelery won first place for their farce Grandma Pulls the Strings. Burrows Young People took second place and Tropkin Littl Theatre earned honorable mention as three plays were staged each evening. adjudicator Mrs. Thomas Rutherford praised cast work though noting uneven pacing and a lack of teamwork across productions. The festival, under the Manitoba Drama League Northern Division, drew strong attendance and opened with remarks by R. M. Stevenson.

Council Pursues Tax Reduction At May Meeting

The Dauphin council spent hours auditing expenditures and revenues hoping to cut the 20 mill levy this year. Administration remains to be reviewed with possible savings of two to three mills, decisions delayed until May 21. Delegations urged relief on a $110 light bill, citing lost provincial grant. council deferred until the 21st.

Funeral Services Held Thursday For Mrs Catherine Boyd

Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church for Mrs Catherine Boyd aged 79 who died last Tuesday after a short illness. Born in Tyree Scotland she came to the United States and married John Boyd in 1880. After his death in 1905 she lived with her sister Mrs Bert Cameron in Grand View for twenty three years before moving to Dauphin in 1928. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery with Rev D Ritchie officiating. Bearers were A A Brewer A phant R McCombe W sie Sg F McEwen and A Bennett.

Travellers' Ball Tournament Set for May Twenty Fourth

Court of King's Bench in Winnipeg heard Litowicz vs CNR over a level crossing death and injuries at Sifton in February with over 40 witnesses. Separate Potoski vs Reid estate claimed 1724 for tapping. judgment reserved. May 24 marks the Dauphin Travellers tournament and dance to benefit the local agricultural society with proceeds funding summer fair expenses.
