The Dauphin Public School Board presents a new three grade salary schedule with probationary, B and A levels and annual raises up to 1200 dollars. Promotions depend on service length and merit, with a base of 900 for probationary staff.
The BPO Ellis lodge thanked Miss Stothart district health nurse for her work in Dauphin by presenting a gold chain purse in the Rest Room on Thursday. Alex Katz and J W Johnston made the gift with good wishes for her new role. Earlier, teachers at Kings Hotel banqueted her with a white gold harpin as a token of esteem.
Ward from Ottawa reports approval of funds to enforce the accommodation of the Dauphin post office. MP W J Ward has pushed the minister of public works to address unsatisfactory conditions and work will begin almost immediately. The postmaster-general is reviewing the status of Dauphin’s facility.
Edger Goddard of Hopwood's Ltd suffered a foot cut from shattered glass after the car he drove turned over on Saturday afternoon on 4th Ave N.E. A heavy gravel patch blocked the windshield. He is laid up but expected to recover within days.
On Sunday last the resignation of Rev. O. E. B too was announced to the congregation after it had been submitted to the deacons. A special church meeting will be held on Wednesday to act officially on the matter.
The Rotary Club and local citizens plan a town wide effort to collect loose rubbish, remove debris, and present the town in a more presentable state. A meeting is set for Monday evening at town hall to discuss measures and invite all interested residents to participate.
Coroner's jury returns a verdict that Nikola Kolcum died in Dauphin General Hospital around 6:30 pm May 3rd from infection caused by gunshot wounds inflicted about 1:30 pm April 30th, 1928, at Paul Bencharski's farm seven miles south of Shortdale. Wounds were inflicted by Paul Bencharski. jury foreman Frank Bumstead presided.
The Dauphin pupils earned multiple honors including the Isbister Scholarship in Arts and Science Senior Honors for Lawrence Christopher Bonnycastle with a $100 prize. Degrees awarded include Bachelor of Arts General Course for Agnes Jean McDonald and Mary Helen Walker. Other winners span Norma Malcolm Dorothy Bewell Beth Crowe in Third Year Arts. Jean Tannis Iredale Clarence Roste in Second Year Arts. Kenneth A. Mc Killop Jack Y. Crowe Ernest Solomon in First Year Arts. O. V. Farrell in Second Year Law.
About 30 dry municipalities in the province automatically became wet after three months since the liquor act proclamation. No petitions for local option votes had been filed by Tuesday afternoon. In most areas prohibitionists acted, but these towns show no broad opposition to beer parlors by hotels or the government liquor control commission if needed.
A meeting of C N R employees was held in the freight shed on Tuesday evening to organize for the coming season. L Waters named manager and G Bird secretary. About a dozen players have signed up. Also notes for Dauphin Theatre family night with Dauphinolians.
The semi annual Dauphin Lawn Bowling Club meeting in the town hall approved season fees with ladies admitted as full members. Committees for Finance Grounds Draw and ladies only draws were appointed. Mr R King elected club patron. Six greens will be used and a May 21 meeting in the Elks hall will form an Intermediate Baseball league.
The ladies eecifers will hold their first competition on May 24 at 2 30 p.m. Meet at No 1 tee. For handicap purposes each member must submit three 18 hole score cards by June 23.
The club season opens May 24 with an 18 hole match day featuring President against Vice President. Members are urged to arrange starter times and complete all 18 holes. The draw includes G Nagle versus L S Curtis and many other pairings with the event listed to continue on page 3.
