Annual Art Exhibition Showcases Winnipeg Sketch Club Works

About thirty five paintings selected from the Winnipeg Sketch Club include Weisser Thurm Rothenburg Bavaria and Fairy Spring by Lyon Sisson. Local pieces feature Mrs Z M Dickinson Meeting House Lane Brighton water color and oils of urban rural scenes. Dauphin to Vote on By Law 1234 for $75 000 Power Plant Additions

Public notice states Dauphin electors will vote on By-Law 1234 authorizing a 75 000 loan for a new steam turbine boiler and power plant upgrades. Debentures bear 5.5 percent over twenty years with annual levy to cover principal and interest. Advance poll June 4–6. final tally June 9 at Town Hall.

Town Engineer backs impounding dam and filtration system

Dauphin Town Council hears plan for a new impounding dam and pressure filtration plant to improve Edwards Creek water quality. Mayor and council approve Ukrainian Club tennis court request and appoint a relief officer. Water use runs high at 82 gallons per capita daily, with ongoing sediment and contamination concerns.

Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church marks fifth anniversary in Dauphin

The Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of St. George celebrated five years in Dauphin with Sunday services led by Rev. W. Kudryk of Saskatoon and a banquet at the Ukrainian People's Home attended by about 150 people from Dauphin and nearby towns. Speakers included Dmetro Romanchuk Keld Principal Damyichuk and John Smielski with a capacity crowd for an evening concert directed by Jack Palomorchuk. Rev Kudryk, a noted author and vice administrator of the Saskatoon church, urged support for the parish.

William R Alguire Dauphin Old Timer Dies

William Riley Alguire longtime Dauphin resident and pioneer who came to the area in 1892 died at his home on May 7 at age eighty two after a three week illness. He married Adelaide Lacey in Stormont Ontario before moving west and helped settle the Sandringham district. He later retired in 1922 and lived in Dauphin with his wife celebrating their diamond wedding last year. Surviving are four sons Herman Charles Carman Howard. three daughters G W J Barker Jos Winters and W B Hicks along with forty three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. The funeral was held May 10 at the Dauphin United Church with burial at Riverside cemetery.

Utility Board Sits In Dauphin Friday Renewing Franchises

W. R. Cottingham and D. L. Mellish heard franchise renewal requests in Dauphin. The Dauphin Winnipeg run was renewed for Clark Transportation Co. and the Dauphin Benito service for Northern Manitoba Transit Co. A. E. Prentice was authorized to serve the Clear Lake district with truck freighters. Railway reps unsuccessfully opposed more merchandise trucking from Winnipeg points.

Bar Association Banquet Welcomes Judge Bonnycastle in Dauphin

Members of the Bar Association of the Dauphin Judicial District gathered at the King's Hotel Dauphin on Tuesday evening to welcome His Honor Judge A L Bonnycastle returning from eastern Canada. Judge Bowman presided while Mr Justice Donovan of Winnipeg spoke on professional questions. Frank Meighen of the Braddon Bar delivered greetings from the western district.

Ukrainian Athletic Club formed to promote sport

A new organization named the Ukrainian Athletic Club was formed at the Ukrainian People's Home. Officers include President Paul Jaddock and Vice Presidents Leslie Maleovich and Alex Cottick with Michael Humenk and Anne Shemluck as secretary and treasurer. The club plans a tennis court project near the corner of 1st street south and 2nd avenue. About 56 enthusiasts attended the meeting. joiners welcomed. Meetings are the first and third Fridays each month.

Mayor McDonald Heads Bowling Club for 1936

Mayor D. D. McDonald was elected president of the Dauphin C N R A Lawn Bowling Club at its annual meeting. Officers named include vice president Dr E Bottomley secretary W F P Percy treasurer J F Sheridan. Committees were formed for finance property grounds and membership with members named. Cups prizes from the past year were awarded by retiring president M Wick. The club plans a May 25 open tournament to start the 1935 season if greens are ready and invites prospective members to send their names.

Dauphin Woodcutter Sentenced for Gross Indecency

H Armstrong a woodcutter of Dauphin pleaded guilty in police court to committing an act of gross indecency and was sentenced by Magistrate Littie to two years in the penitentiary Friday afternoon.

Funeral Services Held Saturday for Andrew S Negrych

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church for Andrew S. Negrych of Dauphin who died Thursday morning. Rev. R. Zaparyniuk led the rites with burial in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers included John Smiclski and Wm. Skolney, plus Negrych sons John Michael and Ernest. Negrych, born in Barazava Ukraine, immigrated to Canada in 1896, later settling around Mink Creek. He married Justyna Gumaga in 1906 and left a large family including four sons, four daughters, and several siblings living in Saskatchewan and New York.
