St James United Church Names New Minister Hopeful

The St James United Church unanimously invites Rev H M Lyon MA of Carman Manitoba to become their minister. The Vacancy and Supply Committee recommended him without alternatives. Lyon may start duties on the first Sunday of August.

Mothers Day Observed in Dauphin Churches

Mothers Day services across Dauphin churches featured special music and sermons. Grace United and Grace Church hosted programs for 260 attendees with C.G.L.T. girls presenting a Bible Mothers pageant and carnations for all. Rev P F Middleton spoke on Mother in the morning, and Mrs Capt Joyce urged reflection on motherhood.

James Audy Dies at 82 A Pioneer of Manitoba

James Audy a well known Dauphin figure died at Portage la Prairie's home for the aged. He arrived in Manitoba in 1860 joining Hudson Bay Co at Port Garry and later served Fort Garry Fort Elis Riding Mountain and other posts. Lake Audy on Riding Mountain bears his name. He left a wife Miss Spence two sons and a daughter.

Normal Students Visit Churches and Play Gilbert Plains

Two weeks into term with three weeks left, the Normal class reports church visits to English, St. James, and Grace. A football outing to Gilbert Plains ended 7 to 0 for the Normal team with Mr. Miller as referee and rain as a shower bath. Gilbert Plains lacked boot cleats.

Lady Golfers May 24 Programme At Country Club

On May 24 the Lady Golfers of the Country Club hold a 2 ball foursome hole competition starting at 2 pm. Play begins at No 1 Tee with refreshments by Mrs McLachlin's cottage. Open to all members. please be on time.

Construction Supt. Heads to The Pas for Rail Rehab

Duncan Campbell, superintendent of anadian phin, travels to The Pas to supervise crews resuming rehab of the Hudson Bay railway to the railhead and to organize construction of a new line from mile 7 toward the Flin Flon mining region.

Oddfellows of Dauphin District Hold Divine Service

Members from Roblin Grandview Gilbert Plains and Rebekah lodges gathered at Grace United Church Dauphin for a special sermon by Rev. F C Middleton on Odd fellows of the Bible. The service included music by Mrs. Robt Hawkins and greetings from district representatives at Oddfellows Hall.

Runaway Girl brings Dauphin crowd to theatre

Three crowded houses welcomed the Dauphin dramatic society as the musical comedy A Runaway Girl played at the Dauphin Theatre last week. Local and visiting audiences enjoyed leading roles by Mrs. E. McNabb and Mr. North plus songs and dances from a full company.

Canadian National photographers visit Dauphin area

E A Blow of the Colonization Agricultural and Natural Resources Dept and H A Pride of Canadian National Railways toured Dauphin and captured seeding farm scenes and cattle shots including Mr Cornwall's Guernsey herd. Orvil Thompson Breaks Leg Yet Again in Hospital Stay

Orvil Thompson, Ezra Thompson’s son, suffers a fifth leg fracture while playing and remains in hospital. The same limb has repeatedly sustained the injuries, marking continued misfortune in his boyhood.

National Hospital Day At Dauphin Attracts Large Crowd

On National Hospital Day May 12 visitors toured Dauphin’s hospital. Superintendent Miss Cotter welcomed guests who toured the facility and enjoyed afternoon tea served by the ladies of the W. H. A. The event drew more visitors than in previous years, showing growing local interest.

Town Sets Strict sidewalk bicycle ban enforcement

The by law prohibiting bicycling on the town sidewalks will be strictly enforced from this date. Offenders will be prosecuted under the by law and bicycles of those found committing the offence will be impounded.

Pioneer matron Mrs. Isaac Spillett dies at Dauphin

Mrs. Spillett a longtime Dauphin district resident born in Alliston Ont. passed away Friday the 7th. Survived by husband four sons Merritt A John Melville and James and two daughters Mrs. Wm Miner and Mrs Mellwrath eight grandchildren mother Mrs. John Hancey of Winnipeg and six sisters. Dauphin Society Plans Stock Judging Team to Brandon Fair

At the Dauphin Agricultural Society meeting a boys stock judging team will be sent to Brandon fair in July. A committee was formed to select the team and begin coaching now. It is likely Ethelbert will also send a team.

Local Hospital Attendance Update from Gilbert Plains and Surrounding Areas

Mrs. R. Stuckey of Gilbert Plains has returned home after a brief hospital stay. Mrs. Compton Mrs. Matrie and Mrs. ariviere of Ste. Rose receive treatment in the hospital. C. S. Jamieson is a patient undergoing surgical treatment. Charlie Dewberry of Fork River arrives for emergency operation to treat a ruptured appendix. Orvil Thompson returns with a femur fracture the fifth time from boyhood play. Wilfred Robson is a several days patient under Dr. Gunne. Rev. Fred C. Middleton admitted for a nasal operation and is improving at the hospital with plans to be discharged soon.

Bazaar and Afternoon Tea at St. Paul’s Church Hall

A bazaar and afternoon tea will be held Saturday May 2 from 3 to 6 AM at G. W. VA Hall under the auspices of the Girls Auxiliary of St. Paul’s Church.
