La Verandrye Chapter I O D E opened pew rooms over Bowman and McFadden's office with a Friday evening progressive 500 party. A large attendance enjoyed the event. Honors were awarded to Mrs J W Johnston, Mrs Curtis, Mr Lunn, and Mr A D Smith.
The Week's Casualties list Pte. Gabriel Prieur of Dauphin wounded and Pte. J. McKenzie of Ste. Rose wounded in action.
At the last meeting of the Methodist Ladies Aid officers were elected for the ensuing year. Honorary president is Mrs. Rev Spence. President is Mrs A H F Stelck. Vice president is Mrs A E Bradale. Secretary is Mrs B Phillips. Assistant secretary is Mrs Spillett. Treasurer is Mrs J A Gorby. Assistant treasurer is Mrs N Murray. Organist is Mrs Curtis. Reports show the society remains flourishing.
The Red Cross Society records thanks from the treasurer for receipts and lists gifts in kind. Miss Birnie reports $27.25 in worker contributions and La Verandrye Chapter I.C. D.E. providing 12 suits of pajamas and 15 pairs socks, plus Baptist Willing Workers donating 5 pairs of socks and 1 suit of pajamas.

Lieut E Manby seeks recruits for the 90th Rangers at Brandon for the Canadian Peace Force and Canadian Expeditionary Force.
The Great War Veterans of Canada Dauphin Branch appeals to the public to establish the G. W. V. A. Dauphin Club. The clubhouse would include a recreation room, writing and reading room, and a bedroom with two beds for returning soldiers and travelers.
The Soldiers' Aid Society gratefully acknowledges donations from Dr. Hosey D Wis hart D McKillop Tea ra Scott's Rebekah lodge and others. Parcels were sent to Sapper John Fyfe Gunner G Ingram Pres Harold J Code H T Crowe W Scrase Courtney Johnston 8 Laker A J McArthur and P A Henry in France. Everyone is busy for the bazaar on May 24. H E Purdy & Co announce a $5 000 stock reduction sale starting this Saturday.
P. M. Hawkins sentenced Peter Melnyk on Saturday to three years in the penitentiary for robbing the Sifton post office. On April 17 the noon robbery yielded 1008.12 dollars, most of which was recovered. Melnyk confessed after later tracing. Detective Fred Taciuk led the case.
Mr M K Harding tendered his resignation from the Collegiate and the school board accepted it. Mr G W Spenceley, now on the staff, has been appointed to the vacancy at a salary of $1,000 per year.
Seven year old Ernie Lasseur was struck by a northbound passenger train engine as it passed through Makinak on Monday afternoon. He sustained serious head injuries and a broken right arm. He was taken to the local hospital and his prognosis remains doubtful.
Mr. Robt Hawkins, police magistrate, asked the council to reduce his pay due to fewer police court cases. Currently paid $25 a month, the council agreed to cut his salary to $12.50 while retaining his services for the future.
Arrangements are under way to establish another wholesale liquor exporting house at Dauphin. The town, well located for west and north trade, is expected to attract a new manager who will relocate with his family from the west.
F. L. Peskett let a contract for a two story frame dwelling on his farm along the lake road to C. B. Steen. Craig Bros. have received the contract for Reeve Castle's dwelling at Dauphin Plains.
