Judge Bonnycastle disposed of numerous exemption appeals on Wednesday. Several appellants had extensions granted to November 1, including Ernest A. Kelly Roblin and Chas. Bennett The Pas while many others were disallowed. Some cases were allowed under wartime acts or extended to July or November 1 as noted for various towns such as Dauphin Ochre River and Glenella with multiple names involved.

Many Buildings Burned In Severe Dry Spell

Dry weather and strong winds last Saturday sparked fires across the district. Stables, barns, and outbuildings burned for several residents including Henry Herrick and Jordan at Wilson River farm. Four square miles of timber burned near the Grandview lower dam. Mrs McLean return from California. Chas Murray visited Ochre River and Ste. Rose. Vacant lots for cultivation advertised by Wm Blackadar.

Chicago Herald reports Billy Sunday sermons draw crowds

Writing from Chicago dated May 3, Rev. R. E. Spence says he heard Billy Sunday twice and that last night 12 000 to 15 000 attended. He notes Sundays fiery and distinctive preaching style and powerful blasts.

Town Council Grants $150 Monthly to YMCA Eight Months

The semi monthly meeting on the 2nd lnst. saw the mayor and all councillors except Bennett present with Rev H P Everett and Mr John Kennedy representing the YMCA. They urged a grant to replace individual subscriptions and the council approved $150 monthly for eight months. A fire by law governing starting and control of fires within town limits received all readings and passed.

A Noble Outcast at Gilbert Plains Dramatic Society

The Gilbert Plains dramatic society led by Mr and Mrs Robbins presents A Noble Outcast titled The Dust of the Earth at the town hall on Thursday May 9 with proceeds supporting patriotic work. Post show dance to 12 30 featuring McMurray Orchestra. Play starts 8 pm sharp. Extra at Gay theatre Friday and Saturday The Girl who did not Care six reels admission 15 and 25 cents.
