NATO Talks at Paris Signal Unified Western Plan on Germany

The 15 nation NATO council in Paris reported Western ministers backed a unified package on Germany and European security. US Secretary Herter said Geneva could yield a basis for durable peace if both sides show goodwill. Meanwhile Montgomery toured Moscow, urging frank talks with Khrushchev and backpedaling on American leadership in a televised interview.

Drama Festival Opens With One Act Plays In Dauphin

The 1959 Dauphin regional parade of oneact plays begins tonight at 8 p.m. in the Henderson school auditorium with three plays. Tom Hendry of Winnipeg will adjudicate all three nights, awards are Saturday, and a new Dr C C Wright Memorial trophy honors the late former member. Dauphin Little Theatre highlights past actor Dr Wright with a shield and mentions his acclaimed roles and directing work.

Town Hall Meeting Set For Next Monday

Election town hall to hear three Dauphin provincial candidates in 12 minute speeches followed by a question period. Reg Kachanowski, Jaycees president, will chair with support from Jaycees members.

Dauphin Livestock Show and Sale Set for Next Wednesday

Dauphin hosts its seventh annual livestock show and sale at the DMC Livestock arena with 33 bulls and 15 purebred females 12 Hereford and three Shorthorn. J Hill says the event will be the largest yet and catalogs are available from the local agricultural office. Judging begins 9 30 am Wednesday with the sale at 1 30 pm under Jock Blacklock.

Dauphin Aids Colombo Plan Training for Ceylon Local Government

Dauphin town council agrees to assist provincial municipal affairs with a Colombo Plan project. Three Ceylon officials will visit Dauphin for ten days in late June to study municipal office organization and administration. They will then train for eight months in Canada and five months in Ontario.

Teen Age Road-e-o At Airport Sunday

The Jaycees Road-e-o program in MacKenzie features a written test at 7:30 pm and a driving test at Dauphin airport 1:30 pm Sunday restricted to top 50 after the written exam. Parade before the event includes town hand majorettes and officials. Prize winners advance to Portage la Prairie and could earn national scholarships worth 1750 dollars.

The town council of Dauphin declares May 11 to 16 as spring Clean-Up Campaign Week to promote healthier premises. Local sanitary inspector Louis notes rat issues and urges raising garbage containers, securing lids, and reporting infestations for prompt action. Extra refuse trucks will operate during the week to assist disposal and encourage community cleanliness.

Advance Poll Opens Today for Early Voting

Advance polls open today with the first ballots cast a week before election day May 14. Poll hours run 1 pm to 10 pm Thursday Friday and Saturday. Voters on the list may apply in person for a certificate to vote at an advance poll. In Dauphin the DMCC industrial building hosts the advance poll for the Datu Phin constituency. In Ethelbert the parish hall hosts the advance poll for the Ethelbert Plaips constituency.
