War Savings Drive Expands Canadian Bond Offerings

Plans call for new war financing measures to double or more the investment by Canadians in Victory bonds and War Savings certificates. Bonds of 50 and 100 denominations will be sold publicly during major Victory loan drives to boost sales of war savings certificates and stamps.

Little Theatre Red Cross Benefit May 12

The Dauphin Little Theatre will present a closing program at Town Hall on Tuesday evening May 12. The concert proceeds will go to the Red Cross through the local branch. Miss Mary Hamilton directs the musical portion and Mrs. B C leads the play.

Local Travellers Face Major Gasoline Ration Cuts

Commercial Travellers association members see ratings drop from D1 to A and some to C, prompting Dauphin travellers to form a central committee. The change lowers ration units from 280 for D1 to 168 for C1 and 60 to 67 for A1 and A2, significantly curtailing travel fuel.

Badminton Club Elects O. C. Knight President

O C Knight is named president for the 1942 43 season by the Dauphin Badminton club at the April 27 annual meeting. Other officers include Vice President Mrs Don Grant Lee Ian McDonald Secretary K Armstrong and Vice Secretary Jean Haddrell. Army Applications Near Seven Hundred Mark

A local army recruiting report shows 691 men have applied for enlistment since last July with 45 accepted, about two in three applicants being medically fit. Last week 21 examined and 11 signed for active service, while seven men began recruiting this week. Major Maris H. Garton praised Dauphin centre as one of the province’s best. Through ten months the call has been steady, with the peak week 42 before the medical board, though weekly applications this year have not surpassed the October record of 108.

Safety Patrols Begin Duty at Local Schools

Safety patrols started this week with eight boys from each school in charge of traffic at key points before and during school hours. Lions Club sponsors urge public cooperation and remind residents to model good traffic manners. Belts owned by the Lions are being tracked and returned to police or school principals if found.

Red Cross Urges Dauphin Helpers to Aid War Relief

The society appeals to Dauphin residents to donate urgently for Canadian Red Cross efforts. Funds support food parcels for soldiers in Germany and Italy, comforts for the armed forces, blood donor services, and supplies for the United Nations. The Red Cross also funds St John Ambulance and recently raised $750,000 for Russia relief.
