Dauphin Opens Victory Loan Parade and Flag Raising

The Dauphin Victory Loan campaign opens with a parade through town led by Major B Saunderson and a wide contingent including RCMP, air force units from No 7 BGS8S and No 10 SFTS, Girl Guides Boy Scouts Cubs air cadets and Veterans Guard. PC Siggy Lee raises the Fourth Victory Loan flag as a 365000 bond target is announced. Support this nation wide campaign buy a bond.

No. 7 Bombing and Gunnery school defeated No. 3 B and 468 at Macdonald Manitoba to claim the efficiency pennant for the past two quarters. The award, presented by Hon. C. G. Power air minister, goes to the most efficient school of its kind for the third straight time.

Variety Show Comes To Dauphin May 18 19

Dauphin hosts the musical hit parade Combines of 1943 on May 18 and 19 at Town hall. The Massey Harris sponsored cast includes 16 women and 8 men from Canada’s Massey Harris works. Proceeds benefit the Dauphin Hostess club with tickets from local drug stores Hostess club Officers Wives and 7 10 Contact.

Committed for Trial in Manslaughter Case

James Paul a Dauphin district farmer was committed for trial at the next assizes with bail set at 8000 dollars for a manslaughter charge arising from a head on collision on No 5 highway five miles west of Dauphin last Oct 18 which fatally injured Joan F Orr pioneer garageman of Grandview C S A Rogers K C appeared for the crown and Jas L Bowman K C for the accused.

Rotary Anns Take Over Rotary Luncheon Monday

The Rotary luncheon at the Legion hall featured the Rotary Anns providing a home cooked meal and entertainment. Mrs A D McKee led a glee club, Mrs M G Peebles played harpsichord, and Mrs E F Treendie sang. Mrs R P Eastman gave an address on Why Rotarians Love Their Wives ending with a Noel Coward toast as the gathering stood.

Dauphin in Manitoba reports 75 percent of its Victory Loan quota raised in week one. Town of Dauphin leads with a $35,000 single purchase and total local investment now $60,000. The HMCS Dauphin progress photo flag shows near completion as the community pushes toward a $365,000 town goal with whistles planned for launch. Canada’s loan total reached $503,936,100 midweek, with Thursday subscriptions at $67,590,850 and overall canvassers and payroll at $138,367,000, 25 percent above last time but short of the 33 percent target.

Furs and More Furs Slogan for Herald Collection Drive

The Dauphin Herald fur collection center promotes Furs and More Furs as its slogan. Disused coats of muskrat beaver moose hide and ermine are accepted to be shipped to Winnipeg for seamen jackets. The guild donates materials and urges extra furs to boost the campaign.

Ottawa Women Win Canadian Bowling Doubles Title at Toronto

Betty Bates and Thelma Weston of Ottawa Civil Service Recreation Association won the ladies doubles championship at the Canadian Bowling Association tourney in Toronto. Weston posted a 416 single and the pair finished with a cross 1 600 to set records as the first Ottawa duo to win this title and the first non Toronto team to capture the honors.

Mosquito Trap Set in Dauphin District

The meteorological department of No 10 SFT, with the provincial health and public welfare department, will run a mosquito trap in Dauphin District from now to September end. Daily mosquito collections aim to curb the encephalitis virus affecting humans and horses. Five other traps exist in the province.
