A weather summary notes April precipitation totaling 4 inches of snow and 0.14 inches of rain during ashore week. It records daily maxima and minima from April 26 to May 7, with a peak 80 degrees on the 28th and a low around 13 degrees. The mean temperature is stated as 37.1 degrees.
Hon A Weir outlined Manitoba province road projects for 1965 affecting the Dauphin area. Plans include rebuilding 9.7 miles of highway 20 and 20A from Dauphin to Dauphin Beach with widening to 24 feet of pavement and eight foot shoulders, plus grade widening base and pavement for several other routes and the Salt Creek bridge. Additional work covers No 4 highway from Ashville junction to Gilbert Plains, a bypass at Ethelbert on No 10, and bridge and gravelling on No 20 toward Vermillion River and Camperville PCB area near Duck Bay.
Dauphin Collegiate students sponsor a three session drama festival at the Henderson gym Friday and Saturday May 7 and 8. Adjudicator George Botchett of Brandon, known for Dauphin Life Theatre work, will judge. Plays include four Dauphin collegiate, three from Rivers, and two grade four plays Zel da and Cissy and the Little Terror. Public welcome with no fixed charge. a collection will be taken at the door. Sessions begin 8 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
A 1965 program earmarks 14 000 for major repairs on the Park Highway with Dauphin area noted. The plan totals 1 470 000 for continuing reconstruction and grading, plus 775 000 for Medicine Maligne Lake road work and 1 200 000 for Jasper to Yellowhead Pass highway. Additional funds include 1 105 000 for Jasper end work on the Banff Jasper highway and 550 000 for the Banff Windermere canyon section in Kootenay Park.
Dauphin-Ochre Area school board lists 18 resignations this year, including seven from collegiate staff and eight from elementary staff. Several positions remain open across junior high and secondary schools with two technical instructor posts among them. Board approves a slate of new appointments for September across Dauphin composite high, elementary schools, and Bay Centre area.
Canadian National Railway updates affect Manitoba and Northern Ontario routes starting April 25. Trains 64 75 and 63 operate on revised daily patterns between Churchill Winnipeg Thompson The Pas Hudson Bay Dauphin Swan River Canora and exceeding destinations with new departure and arrival times and days of operation.
The town band will perform at Town Hall on Sunday May 16, with boys and girls in blue and gold uniforms. The concert features pieces for civic occasions including the fair and graduation exercises, inviting Mr and Mrs Public and families to attend.
The town sweeper now runs full day and night shifts on hard surfaced roads. Signs along boulevards show when parking is prohibited to let the street-cleaning equipment operate. The by law aims to keep streets clean and council will enforce restrictions strictly if vehicles park during restricted times.
Announcements in the Dauphin subdivision detail a new posting and a promotion within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Cpl. N J G Searle transfers to Dauphin as second in charge. The Dauphin detachment expands to eight members. Cpl. Don Goodwin leads the identification section from Dauphin since July 1961. Cpl. Searle and family relocate to south Dauphin with three children.
The Dauphin association for retarded children repeats the Flowers of Hope appeal to fund a new school. Pupils package seeds for distribution to homes district wide with a direct canvass May 9 to 15. Donors who are not visited by May 15 may mail contributions to Day-Children Box 458 Dauphin.
The practice formerly Robison Green and Company is purchased and rebranded as Bond Penrose and Co effective May 1. Founders Douglas R Bond and Murray L Penrose bring decades of accounting and civic involvement to Dauphin with a nine member staff and a student training program.
A daylight program followed by a supervised fireworks show is planned with a $1 per family charge. Scouts and Cubs will lead, with Dauphin Volunteer Fire Department on standby. Cub leaders C K Smith and Don Boyle. Scout leaders Glenn Rogers and Grant Fletcher. district commissioner R C Bob Mackenzie to MC.
Dauphin promotes its Annual Livestock Show with a 12:30 p.m. bull sale featuring 25 Hereford bulls four Shorthorn bulls and four Aberdeen Angus bulls selected from over 70 entries. The fat stock show will include 200 4H club and farmer fed calves with 175 4H members from 15 clubs showing and competing for top honors. Calves weigh-ins begin 7 a.m. Saturday May 15 with inter club contests and sale to follow for 4H calves and purebreds. Auctioneers Jock Blacklock and Lyle Husenetter handle the sale. The Canadian Hereford Association offers Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion cash prizes up to 150 each, with specifics tied to sired by registered stock.
