Vernon H. Rampton is elected chairman of the Dauphin Parks board for 1962 succeeding Dr. KR E B Dicks. Ernest A. Koons becomes vice chairman and Len Lintick secretary treasurer. Committees named include Parks and Boulevards with George Sumpter chairing and A Buckwold E A Koons on the panel. Vermillion Motel and Trailer Park set to open May 15 pending cabin roof and waterline repairs. A four-connection septic system upgrade completed. Top Individual Aggregate Honors For 1962 Short Course
Beverley Brander and Murray Edwards won the individual high grand aggregate honors at the Easter Week Short Course sponsored by the Dauphin Agricultural Society. Brander received the Peoples Store trophy and $25. Edwards got the Bert Scrase trophy and $25. The event closed Friday April 27 with awards presented by Dr. E J Tyler of Brandon College.

New Manager For Indian Affairs Branch Arrives
Donald Boyle arrived and assumed duties as Office Manager with the Indian Affairs branch on Tuesday April 11. He transferred from Fisher River Indian Agency Hodgson where he served as office manager. Mr Boyle is married to Helen Sklepowich and has two sons aged two and four. Mrs Boyle previously taught at Waitmore school in Dauphin.

Drama Festival to Open Friday in Dauphin
Dauphin Little Theatre group sponsors a two night drama festival with three plays each night. Miss Norrie Duthie of the Manitoba Drama league will adjudicate and award eight trophies. Winners include best junior and best senior plays advancing to the provincial finals in Pilot Mound May 31 to June 2. Admission is fifty cents for adults and thirty five cents for students.

Bacon carcass show tops quality under Forbes at DMCC event
R. M. Forbes received top honors for his bacon carcass entry at the Dauphin Municipal Community Centre show on Friday April 27. Ross Forbes accepted the Dauphin Agricultural Society trophy in his brother’s absence, with Elmer Durston as reserve champion. Judge Fred Boland discussed carcass grading and the growing emphasis on ham quality, noting higher overall entry quality and 20 entries with ten in top brackets. The grain show awarded trophies to Ernest Bosiak for hard spring wheat and various prizes for barley and oats reflecting local farm support and cooperative grain industry involvement.

Plaque to Honor Top Dauphin Band Member at May Concert
A plaque will be awarded to the best all around member of the Dauphin Boys and Girls band at the spring concert on Sunday May 6. Mayor H J Mobberley will present the hardwood plaque bearing the town crest. The two Dauphin IODE chapters will each present a bursary for the International Peace Gardens music camp. A chance event at the armouries on May 11 funds the overseas trip for two band members.

First Band Dance Aids Two For European Tour
Dauphin Boys and Girls Band committee hosts a spring dance at the armouries four miles south of Dauphin on May 11 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. A parade of music and contests are planned to raise funds for two band members selected for a European tour. Three Manitoba students were chosen from Swan River and Day.

CNR Proposes Abandoning Trains 9 and 10 in Canada
Town council reviews the Canadian National Railways application to discontinue passenger trains 9 and 10 between Winnipeg and Saskatoon. A detailed report will be studied and referred to the Dauphin chamber of commerce for its May meeting. The railways propose to reroute milk, express and freight traffic with limited passenger service intact in adjacent segments.

The Dauphin-Ochre Area School board awarded the Mackenzie school four classroom laboratory addition contract to Matheson Bros. Ltd. of Yorkton for 109 949 dollars. Roy M. Iev, architect, attended the meeting to discuss plans. The project aims to have classrooms ready by August 15 for the new term and will house physics chemistry biology labs and a standard classroom.

Henry Paul Joins Eaton’s Quarter Century Circle
Henry Paul began his Eaton’s career in 1937 as a grocery clerk in Portage la Prairie. In 1940 he moved to Dauphin as grocery department manager, a post he still holds. He was guest of honor at a Kings hotel breakfast for 25 years of service, receiving a golf bag from Howard Heath and store staff.

Manitoba Budget Sees Record Revenue and Surplus
Manitoba Premier Duff Roblin unveiled a 1962 63 budget forecasting a record revenue of 121 520 300 and a 256 104 surplus after current expenditures. Tax cuts total about 200 000 for individuals and 300 000 to 400 000 for corporations with incentives for research and oil gas exploration. Amusement taxes are halved and hospital service taxes reduce by 135 000. A stabilizing 7 6 million current revenue surplus is included, aided by federal tax changes and other revenue boosts from liquor profit and mining.

French Teaching Is Theme For MTS Workshop Here
A workshop on the audio lingual approach to French in elementary and high schools will be held at Whitmore school this Saturday May 3 starting at 9 a.m. The event marks the first rural Manitoba program of this type with qualified personnel leading sessions. The DMCC board advanced plans for a $50 000 artificial ice plant with a spring fund drive. George Jackman was named campaign chair and Barry Jones secretary with Ed Johansen as treasurer. Lead projects will begin this spring aiming for an August 31 finish and equipment order for next winter’s arena use.
