Red Cross Blitz planned in Dauphin Friday evening

The Canadian Red Cross society in Dauphin launches a Friday evening blitz from 6 to 6 30 pm with about 100 volunteer canvassers from local service clubs and women's groups. The Dauphin goal is 3 00 while the Manitoba province target stands at 433 000 to fund relief work. chair Morley Codlin leads business canvassing and R N Dodds heads the overall campaign urging volunteer effort and porch light donations.

New Committee Forms To Seek Elder Recreation Rooms

On March 21 twelve Dauphin residents met in the old council chambers to form a committee organized by the Local Council of Women. They reviewed existing groups such as the Over Seventy Club with 90 men and the Sunshine Club for women over 70 with 100 members. They discussed the need for low cost housing with recreation space, identified the central location challenge, and named J. H. Delong chair of a housing committee to report by April 14.

The three act comedy based on the famous TV series debuts Thursday at Mackenzie auditorium with Mrs Stan Yates and Sid Hibberd in the leading roles. Churchill excursions through Manitoba rail tours scheduled

Canadian National Railways expands Hudson Bay tours with two six day trips leaving Winnipeg August 8 and 15 to Churchill and Northland routes. Monday night the town council approved a $1,000 appropriation for the joint committee planning the 60th anniversary of Dauphin. The committee includes town council members, the Agricultural Society, and the Pioneer’s Association, which have begun organizing activities.

Early Start Planned On Huge Road Program

Manitoba government prepares a record 40.68 million highway program with 360 miles of paving and almost 1,700 miles of road tackled. Public works minister Robertson notes funding from current revenue borrowing federal sources and minerals grants, plus a five year Ottawa plan boosting 1958 resources for natural roads. The plan covers Manitoba from southeast to Thompson area with major projects on No 5 and No 10 highways and a new 63 mile Simonhouse to Webusk ee route, plus restorations and expansions across many corridors. A Winnipeg perimeter project and Trans-Canada paving near Brandon are also highlighted.
