Collegiate Students Stage Fine Concert and Plays

Collegiate students presented a two night program with plays The Gold Nugget and The Pot Boiler along with choir numbers and dances. David Oliphant Jim Hawkins Marion Delmage led acting with strong backing from Margaret Prentice Lileen Playford and the town orchestra directed by Arthur Rogers.

Past Noble Grand Lodge Event Honors Veterans

The Past Noble Grands Alexandra Rebekah Lodge held a Wednesday evening gathering with many members and guests. Veterans jewels were presented to several members by Prat Grand J Oliphant of Dauphin Lodge, with prizes awarded to Mrs W Brickman, Mrs F J Dawson, C F Stewart, and Dec Dawson. Refreshments followed for a pleasant close.

Warner Charged Under Liquor Control Act Faces Fines

Warner appeared before Maxis trate Hawkins on Tuesday charged with breach of the Government Liquor Control Act. He pleaded guilty, was fined 20 dollars with 10.75 dollars costs, and received a severe reprimand. The court warned that any further union lifestyle changes could lead to serious trouble.

Dauphin Friends Reunion in Vancouver Hall

March evening gathering in Vancouver Heather Hall drew many Dauphin born and raised residents now in the West. Women shared hometown news, music enchanted guests, and games and laughter filled the night as old friendships were rekindled and prayers of thanksgiving offered.

Association Passes Resolution Expressing Sympathy

A resolution directs Secretary Mrs. W. R. Shelp to send condolences to the relatives of the late Geo. Barker for the road bereavement affecting our esteemed townsman following his fatal accident.

Bonazew Brothers Sentenced for Manslaughter

On Thursday morning Alex Bonazew was sentenced to eight years in the penitentiary and Geo Bonazew to five years for manslaughter in the death of Gabrel Boraschuk who died after a beating on October 29 1929. Mr Justice Adamson noted the younger brother led the violence and stressed that such brutality cannot be tolerated.

A lively gathering for cordwood cutters at Roseland Gardens on Friday April 4 features good music and a social hour. Lunch is served and admission is five cents.

Dauphin School Board weighs junior high plan

The Dauphin School Board, after a special meeting, voted to adopt a Junior High School system if suitable Department of Education arrangements can be made. The White McFadden report from Brandon endorses the model, noting a four-school pilot, age 6-3-3 structure, and praised educational benefits.

Pioneers Hold Annual Reunion at Elks Hall Dauphin

The Dauphin Pioneers Association met at Elks Hall with about 135 attendees from pioneer families dating back to 1858. Officers were elected, memorials observed, and plans updated for a Dauphin district monument while the evening included dancing, a Miller orchestra, and a late supper.

R. H. Brown Tops Brandon Winter Fair With Percherons

R H Brown's string of pure bred Percheron horses returned from Brandon with a grand championship and multiple prizes. Leading mare Daisy, previously a Royal Winter Fair winner, claimed top honours including Manitoba bred Percherons champion. Daisy and Joffre, a Brown stallion, both earned prizes and share full sibling lineage.

Death of Gilbert Plains youth found in uncle’s cow stable

A Gilbert Plains district youth about 18 years old, son of Fred Clary, was found dead in a cow stable on his uncle Louis Clary’s farm about five miles from Gilbert Plains. Life had not been long extinct when found. coroner Dr. Rogers and provincial police investigated.

500 Winners End Season Social With 500 Party

The Daughters of England Dauphin Lodge closed their season with a 500 party at the LO O FT hall Tuesday. Mrs W J Lowes won the ladies grand prize and T Fradley the gentlemen grand prize. Winners included Mrs Mackey Cyril Spencer Mrs Mills and W M Jackson. Refreshments followed.

Dauphin Country Club Dance Draws Crowd at Town Hall

About 150 attendees enjoyed the annual club dance held Friday evening in the town hall. Daffodil sidelights and a daisy memorial decor complemented summer golf memories. Mrs. C. W. McLachlin led the arrangements, with supper committee chaired by Mrs. J. L. Bowman. Mrs. Peebles with her orchestra provided the music and Mr. P. H. Mulligan sang the supper waltz. A substantial sum was netted for the organization.

Dauphin Country Club Elects Directors and Plans Course Expansion

The Dauphin Country Club Ltd held its annual meeting at the Elks Hall. E N McGirr chaired while W S Marsh reported solid finances and a plan to hire a golf course surveyor to add holes and bunkers. Directors elected: Dr R Gunne, W G White, W D King, John Gardner, Dr G C J Walker, Jas L Bowman, K C M Zworon, C B Steen, Dr H F E Bewell.
