War and Repatriation Lecture Details on Returns and Settlement

A Monday town hall lecture by Lieut Col Rev Woods outlined German aims in the war and described a repatriation scheme. Returned soldiers could receive up to 5000 for land and 3000 for stock, with a two year tax rebate. vocational training and community support were promised. Short Course at Ste. Rose Agricultural Society

The Ste. Rose Agricultural Society held a successful short course with about 40 young men and 55 ladies attending. The women learned millinery and dressmaking while men studied gas engines livestock poultry field crops and farm accounts. The annual Seed Fair followed in the schoolhouse with about 30 exhibits including wheat oats barley rye timothy and sweet clover despite late season and flu in the district.

School By-law Defeated by Wide Margin in Tuesday Vote

Voters rejected the Municipal School by-law and herd law in Tuesday’s ballot. The school by-law 86 drew 480 votes against and 86 for, while herd law 117 saw 476 against and 359 in favor, indicating a decisive majority against both measures.
