Irish concert by Methodist ladies a great success

On March 14 the Methodist church ladies staged an Irish concert to lively applause and strong finances. The program featured a F B Roberts pianoforte solo an Irish vocal medley by the ladies Rev T Neville Irish stories and various solos and duets with green Shamrock accents. The finale included a sketch and the National Anthem. Separately Sergt J Coleridge, later found in default on government funds, was arrested in Rochester N Y with Sergt H W Green tasked to return him to Winnipeg for trial.

Grade XI Debates Win Shield. Mackenzie School Hosts Event

Friday program March 20 featured Grade XI surroundings with an eight boy orchestra led by conductor Jim Malcolm and soloists J Hyckeway and Betty Willams on piano. Grade XB won the 1924 25 shield while Dauphin Norman class leads Collegiate Society. upcoming banquet April 3 and March 27 debate at Mackenzie School on Senate abolition with teams from Collegiate and Brotherhood.

Guernsey Breeders' Association Formed in Dauphin District

A Guernsey Breeders' Association has been formed for the Dauphin district with 15 to 20 members. The group aims to promote breeding of high grade and pure bred Guernseys, assist members in buying or selling top animals, and foster the livestock industry. Elected officers include Hon. President G. W. Cornwall, President J. A. McKillop, Vice President D. D. McDonald, Sec-Treasurer W. A. McCormack, with Executive-Officers R. J. Cardiff and Arthur French.

Town Council Meeting Amid Friendly Fireworks andAdministrative Talks

The regular town council session on the 19th saw most members present with Hoy and Hamilton absent. Sparks flew between Coun. McDonald and Robson while Mayor Palmer and McDonald also clashed briefly before apologies were accepted. The Health and Relief Committee reported on the dog bylaw and proposed limited enforcement. by May 31 the present bylaw would stand with select clauses relaxed. Mayor Palmer suggested gathering data on municipal rinks and central heating plants. Brewer and Skinner were assigned to gather information. Taxes arrears will be reviewed at special meetings. The diary notes list several dairy licenses applied for and TB testing results showing no reactors. The Adanacs Trail Rangers enjoyed a successful hike despite heavy snow, ending with a campfire and shared beans.

Dauphin Mayor Sees Tourism Drive Benefiting Province

In Winnipeg banquet remarks, Dauphin Mayor advocates tourism as a major provincial industry. Speakers urge expanding Manitoba fishing boating hunting and lake regions, expanding museum and transport links, including roads from Dauphin to Winnipeg and the Trans Canada Highway. Edmonton plans a $40,000 fund to promote tourism.

Valley River residents seek new two room school

Village of Valley River and surrounding district meet to address school congestion. A petition to form a separate school district will be presented to the rural council, with plans for a two room school at Valley River if approved.

Pretty March wedding unites Mary Murray and Ivan Allan Boles

The home of Mr and Mrs Wm Murray hosted the March 25 wedding of their adopted daughter Mary to Ivan Allan Boles of Dauphin. Rev Philip Duncan officiated, Alma Short and Eva Benoit attended, George Brown was best man, and a buffet luncheon followed. The couple will honeymoon in Saskatoon and western points with out of town guests present.

Third Debate Set at Mackenzie School Auditorium

The final local debating league debate to be held in Mackenzie school auditorium Friday at 7 45 p m. The topic pits Re debaters affirming and Brotherhood and Sisterhood debaters negating. Assizes Open in Manitoba Chief Justice Sees Declining Crime

On March 24 the spring assizes opened with Hon. T G Mathers presiding. No criminal cases were listed. a glove presentation was made to the chief justice who praised a clear docket and a peaceful province. Civil matters included a divorce petition Lee vs Lee decree nisi and several motions. An out of court settlement occurred in a mining claim case Hassard-A Myles-A Gelinas. Fire crews battle chimney blaze at W. E. Lee home

Friday evening the fire brigade answered a call from 4th Avenue Southwest where a chimney fire at W. E. Lee's house was controlled but recurred when the heat cracked the chimney. Flames were spotted on the kitchen roof and the brigade returned to extinguish the blaze.

Appeals Against Municipal Assessments Heard in Town Hall

The Manitoba Tax Commission sat in the Town Hall on Thursday the 19th to hear appeals to the provincial equalized assessment for the district municipalities. Dauphin Rural Municipality presented by J. L. Bowman dominated the session with a full land survey and township descriptions. Gilbert Plains Rural Municipality, represented by H. A. Alley, offered limited evidence but the commission promised thorough consideration and a future decision.

The regular monthly gathering of La Verendrye Chapter LO DE is moved from Friday April 3 to Tuesday April 7. Mrs W Lee will present on the History of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire.
