RK Maxwell told delegates at the town banquet a laughable anecdote about visiting Australia last year. He opened a speech with the first line of a popular song and a heckler from the back answered with a suggestive retort.
Public Works Committee chairman is urged to address a report of a drunken policeman at the Main Street and Burrows Avenue junction. The notice cites Friday events at the Gay Theatre hosted by D E Benefit and Le Verendrye Chapter. Dauphin Furniture Co promotes reduced prices on white felt mattresses, linoleum, and wallpaper in weekly ads.
Chief Justice Mathers spoke at the Canadian Club luncheon on Wednesday. He emphasized the legal profession's high standards, defended fair trials, and cited a murder case where defense proved the defendant’s innocence by locating him away from the crime scene. He urged adherence to ethical codes for social and moral benefits.

Robert Nicholson died at his son in law R M Stevenson 703 Main Street N W on Monday March 26 He was an early settler in Whitewood Sask homesteading 40 years ago He retired five years ago due to ill health and spent much time in Dauphin with his daughter He leaves a widow two daughters Mrs W H Catten of Whitewood and Mrs R M Stevenson of Dauphin and a brother William Nicholson of Whitewood A private funeral conducted by Rev Philip Duncan was held Monday evening Interment was in Whitewood on Wednesday March 22 Dauphin Herald subscription $2 yearly
The Spring Assizes in the Dauphin district opened with Chief Justice Mathers presiding. The grand jury will conclude soon as cases include King vs Lionel Fraser theft true bill and King vs Sandie attempting carnal knowledge no bill. A long list of jurors and foreman Thomas Keats are named.
Forms for individuals and corporations to file income declarations and informative returns are available from the post office and Burrows building taxation office. The due dates are March 31 for informative returns and April 30 for income declarations with 25 percent payable at filing and the balance in three two month instalments at 6 percent interest.
About two o clock on Tuesday afternoon the fire brigade was summoned to a fire at Robt Cruises farm south of town. The blaze attacked the implement shed and garage adjoining with flames and smoke seen from the town but only the shed and garage were damaged. The brigade arrived promptly and saved the garage.
The first annual sale of the Dauphin Pure Bred Live Stock Sales Association was held at the Exhibition Grounds on Tuesday afternoon. A fair crowd of breeders and farmers attended with government agent Bodner present. Fifteen head sold at an average of 120 dollars, seven bulls bought by the Dominion Government through Bodner. Dan Hamilton was auctioneer with J. B. Davidson among the outsiders.
Peter Boyd appeared before Robi Rae P.M. at Roblin on Saturday 18th inst. and was found guilty of two thefts from a railway caboose. He received six months in jail for each count to run concurrently. In a separate case Thomas Urbanski stood before Robt Rae P.M. at Roblin on Saturday, was found guilty, and fined $100 plus costs for traps in the Duck Mountain Reserve.
The W M S of the Presbyterian Church will hold a musical event at the home of Mrs Robt G Smith on Friday evening March 24 at 8 oclock. A fine program of vocal violin piano solos duets quartette and readings will be performed by local artists. Admission is 50 cents.

Jack Kalichuk of Sifton faced PM Hawkins on Saturday on three charges: stealing a camera, stealing a watch, and forging a cheque. He was found guilty and committed for trial.
From 1912 to 1921 the Rural Municipality of Dauphin increased public school levies from 19937.65 to 63079.15 dollars. The table shows year by year changes in number of schools, general and special levies, highlighting a major jump in 1920 and 1921.
A Wednesday town hall event hosted by Dr J R Gunne showcased a varied Red Cross program. The audience enjoyed encores as the Local Relief Committee received 142.25 toward relief funds. H Stanley Beetham led the committee with praise for the success.
In Dauphin Club curling, Robson defeated J Eagle by two points to claim the Trimble Trophy as the season nears a close. Teams featured A Lowes, A Iredale, Dr. Bell, W Robson and J Eagle leading their skips, with a lively St Patrick's night match between Scotch and English sides noted for its playful language rule.
The Ladies' Aid of the Baptist Church will hold a Silver Tea and Sale of Home Cooking in the church on Saturday afternoon March 25.
The Dauphin town council on Thursday discusses adopting a Brandon style milk by law. It would license all milk vendors at 500 dollar fee plus 1.60 per delivery vehicle. Cow owners pay 1.60 per cow. Production must meet government inspected herd health and sanitation standards with penalties for adulteration. Cows and stables would be inspected regardless of sales.
On March 17 under the Methodist Ladies Aid supervision Mrs. Dr. Rogers, Rev. T. Neville chairs an Irish themed show. A massed choir in white with shamrocks, a butter price skit, readings by Mrs. Delmage and Mrs. Phillips, and lively items drew praise for warmth and humor. Audience sang the National Anthem as applause rolled in. Hospital collection day on Tuesday the 21st saw a steady canvass and hopes to meet last year’s totals.
In town Saturday the egg trade surged with hundreds of dozens sold. Firms marketed 250 dozen and 200 dozen respectively while other merchants moved large quantities. Eggs brought 45 cents a dozen and farmers found the crop more profitable than wheat.
Vehicle owners who operate cars without licenses will be prosecuted under the Motor Vehicle Act. Licenses may be obtained from the provincial police office in the court building.
Mike Sawicki appeared before P M Robertson at Gilbert Plains on Tuesday the 21st for an infraction of the Manitoba Temperance Act. He was found guilty and sentenced to four months in jail.
Portage la Prairie March 21. An 18 round return between Billy Groff and Billy McKenzie ended in a draw after a brutal contest. Groff absorbed a left hook to the jaw breaking a wrist yet fought on with his right hand, while McKenzie mauled him, and Groff finally opened up in the last round though his left remained useless. Local critics praise Groff for his grit and crowd appeal.
In a Tuesday bout at Grand View on the 271st, Jack Clements stopped Scotty Fowler of Dauphin in the seventh round. The fight remained fast paced through six rounds before Fowler was knocked out.
