Dauphin Hospital Reports 1955 Operating Deficit

The 1955 operation of Dauphin Hospital showed a net loss of 3318 dollars after expenses of 164130 exceeded revenue of 160512. Secretary-manager A J Schmiedl cited a decline in patient load with 2310 admissions and 14150 patient days.

Businessmen Group Takes On Dauphin Kings Debt

A group of about ten Dauphin businessmen has assumed responsibility for the Dauphin Kings hockey club debt of 6760. The move follows reports showing a 1955-56 operating loss of 6760 due to revenue decline from 15365 to 12646. Plans include spring and summer projects to clear liabilities and set up a restructured hockey executive for 1956-57.

Hospital Meet Well Attended In 1956 Board Elections

The Daunhin general hospital annual meeting on Friday March 16 drew about 40 governors. Wm Cruise John Gardner and S S Hunt were elected to three year terms on the board of directors. Directors W G D Ritchie H A Breslow Rhoda Tucker have two years left. W H Rampton C S Robertson Jk W Hawkins QC have one year. E W Hawkins QC presided in place of John Gardner. Chairman notes lower than normal patient read and earnings, approval of a 30 cent daily rate increase effective Sept 1 1956, and discussion of a municipal hospital district which councils decided not advisable at present. Evacuation Shift in Civil Defence Explained by Canadian Chief

CL Smith Ottawa chief civil defence officer for Canada told a two day familiarization course that hydrogen bombs and the quick rebuild time for factories made evacuation to reception areas the new civil defence model. He warned war risk remains and noted Russians prefer force but avoid war unless chances of victory exist, urging Canada to strengthen civil defence to deter conflict.
