Dauphin Council Receives Girl Deputation on Public Meeting

Rotarians Host Ladies Night With Speech and Theatre
Dauphin Rotarians held a ladies night with a seven o clock dinner in the armoury Elk’s room. D D McDonald praised the gathering while R M Stevenson spoke on Rotary's community role and duties before members attended Lionel Barrymore's Sweepings at the Dauphin Theatre with an Irish melodies program led by Mrs Peebles and Cy Cairns.

Dan Couch Sentenced to Twelve Years for Manslaughter
Dan Couch of Fork River was sentenced by Mr Justice Montague to twelve years in the penitentiary after a Spring Assizes trial for the murder of Mrs. Mary Komarinski, the jury reducing the charge to manslaughter amid evidence of heavy drinking and alleged temporary insanity. The defense argued incapacity to form intent due to intoxication, and Couch’s long history of alcohol-fueled violence with the deceased woman. Additional testimony traced Couch’s past criminal record and his work as an underground miner, with the case centering on a day of home brewed liquor and a fatal assault witnessed by a neighbor and a doctor early in the investigation.
