Dauphin Fixtures Limited won a 20 996 contract for a new one storey post office in Ethelbert. Elmer Forbes MP announced on behalf of David J Walker minister of public works. Bid was the lowest of five with bids ending Feb 8. highest bid was 23 900. Building to have concrete foundation brick veneer asphalt board finish and oil furnace heating. Plans prepared by Winnipeg district office with H C Tod supervising.

UN Forces Medal Awarded In Egypt To Dauphin Soldier
Mr and Mrs J D Shand learn their son Pte Kenneth G Shand of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps with UN emergency forces has been awarded a United Nations medal. The ceremony was at Camp Rasah Sinai Egypt, and he is married to Jean Geddings of Fork River with two children in Shilo.

Presbyterian Church Planned in Dauphin Area
At a March 12 meeting residents of Dauphin and the Presbytery of Brandon united to organize and build a Presbyterian church in Canada. The site is set for the corner of Fuller Street and River Avenue with plans to present the decision to the general board.

Capital Reserve Operations In School Area Financing
The district outlines seven year capital reserve financing from 1962 to 1968 with annual levies of one mill totaling 14 500 and projected gains to 299 382. Dauphin Rural Council Approves Fire Fighting Agreement
The Dauphin rural council, at its March 14 meeting, passed a by law authorizing a fire protection agreement with the town. The town will provide on request a fire unit, up to six firefighters, and possibly additional units. Fees are $50 per unit for the first hour, $15 per unit per extra hour, plus town firemen wages, with insurance and liability terms outlined. The town may refuse calls if conditions are hazardous or if equipment is needed in town.

Mills Named Controller for Dauphin Civil Defence Area
Fred J. Mills was unanimously appointed controller for the Dauphin Emergency Civil Defence area at the Feb 16 Dauphin Emergency Area committee meeting. The committee, with May or H J Mobberley as chair, also named Anne Ward secretary. Ivan Mault outlined provincial civil defence functions and the $5 073 budget, with federal funding of 75 percent and provincial 15 percent, the rest from municipalities. The area spans 995 square miles and Dauphin would bear 52 percent of costs, about $264.80.

Work begun this week to renovate the basement of the civic administration building to house the Dauphin Civil Defence Emergency area. About 20 by 60 feet of floor space on the north front will be allocated for a general meeting room with two offices and a communications room. Walls will use cement blocks to make the facility fall-out proof with a budget cap of 950.

Trophy Winners Decided In Figure Skating Competitions
